My Take On JSS

After much research and having had a chance to chat with him, here is my perspective on Jeff Scott Soto... He is the definition of class, in my book. He know's who he is, know's his capabilitie's and his limit's. He does'nt make excuses and does'nt try to make you like him. He's a man who stand's on his own 2 feet and pull's no punches. He's in touch with who he is and know's his talent.... So many people hold themselve's back in life, from achieving all they can. For many reason's; lack of belief in their own talent, failed attempt's, thinking it's too late for them, bad break's, to a lack of support by other's. The biggest reason to me is a lack of passion and drive to get the best out of themselve's.... This is what really make's JSS shine, is his passion. He's still striving and has the drive that so many lose by mid-life. Maybe because he has'nt reached the pinnacle of his career yet, or it could be that he understand's that you have to keep setting goal's to maintain that passion... Perry had the drive and determination to pull the best out of himself and let his passion and soul show in his voice. I believe that Jeff has this same quality after much time spent listening to his music. No, he does'nt sound like SP, he's not a clone, he has his own persona and voice. Can it still be the Journey sound? I believe it can, a different sound, yes, but the same style. Again, not a clone of the past.... I don't presume to speak for JSS, and my apology's to him if I've assumed to much here. The man can definately speak for himself. I think he would rather prove his abilitie's through his music, though.... I will alway's cherish the past and the gift's that SP gave us, but he's not coming back to Journey. If JSS and the band decide to move forward together, I am excited to the prospect's of the future. This is my all just my take, my 2 cent's worth of opinion. 8)

Performing with your hand doesn't count. Hell, if that were the case, I am shooting 100%.

Excellent post!

I have not had the pleasure of “talking” to Jeff, but I am happy that Jeff is getting the chance to live his dream! I didn’t know his work before his new position but now that I do, I support him! I am impressed with his talent and applaud his open communication (style) with the board. I agree, I think he does have class.

Yes, I am a Perry fan (but not fanatic) nor am I blind to human flaws. I can accept change. I accept that Perry is not coming back to the band. I wouldn’t want him back with the band either. I wish Mr Augeri well. However, I am pleased that the mantle has been passed to Jeff. The band lost their way for a time, but I am happy they are back on track with Jeff! The only thing I ask is that Jeff do the best he can do and not let anyone tell him he is not right for Journey. I hope Jeff keeps his head up, stands strong and ignores the negative/bitter people.

The band has been through many singers and each one created their own legacy and sound. If some want to call the Perry (signature) sound the “Journey sound” fine, but give credit where credit is due and call it what is really is...”The Perry sound”! I think it’s time for a deviation from the past. Each singer will be remembered appropriately for the time they spent in the band. It is now time for Jeff to create his legacy. It’s his time to shine and create the Soto sound. I’m excited about that!
