OT: Your favorite riffs

Postby conversationpc » Thu Aug 17, 2006 12:10 pm

What riffs, guitar, keyboard, or otherwise, are your favorites?

Still of the Night ~ Whitesnake...This is one of the best metal tunes of all time in my opinion. The main riff kicks you in the teeth and then kills and destroys you.

Holy Wars...The Punishment Due ~ Megadeth...Like the previous song, the riff in this one takes no prisoners.

For Whom the Bell Tolls ~ Metallica...Insert more doom and destruction here.

I'm the One ~ Van Halen...I've always loved EVH's use of single-note lines in his riffing and this one is one of the most wild-sounding riffs I can think of. Classic.

Tie Your Mother Down ~ Queen...My favorite Queen tune of all time. Great vocal for sure by Mercury but the guitar riff is what seals it for me.

Let's see some other nominees...

Now that I've actually read the topic correctly

Rush - "Limelight"

Never could get that guitar riff out of my head. Reminded me a little of the guitar riff that MTV used to play when they showed the astronaut landing on the moon (back when they actually played videos - a very long time ago).

Is there a better riff than Summer of 69?

If so, I haven't heard it.

As for keyboards, it's hard to argue "Be Good to Yourself."

rtz wrote:"A Man I'll Never Be" - Boston

The guitar solo after the 2nd chorus is the most "melodic" guitar solo I've ever heard. This song contains every element that made Boston a hit. I still consider this their best song, and most underrated.

Good solo but I am looking for riffs here.

Would the very first guitar lick from "Be Good To Yourself" count. Also theres an awesome little number in "Live And Breath" just after the first chorus.

My Favorite is Leppard's Switch 625. I think Willis and Clarke trade off on that.

Reo's Back on the Road Again is up there too!

A bunch of Frankie Sullivan's riffs are really great.

Eye Of the Tiger
Caught In The Game
Take You On A Saturday
Hesitation Dance
Children Of The Night
Feels Like Love
Slander
It Doesn't Have To Be This Way
Broken Promises
Can't Let You Go
She's A Star
Rhythm Of The City
Strip For Me
Fire Makes Steel
Freelance
Let It Be Now
As Soon As Love Finds Me.

Mick Jones of Foreigner has alot of great riffs.

And obviously Neal Schon has a lot of great riffs!

Forgot. Opening (and lead riffs) to Clapton's "She's Waiting" off Behind The Sun. Wow.

Andy Taylor "Get It On" The Powerstation. Heavy as hell.
