Which "Schon" Side-Project is/was better?

I thought of this after a little 'disagreement' with someone here yesterday. I don't know if this was discussed before so I thought I'd give it a shot...
For my vote, I'd have to go with HSAS... Something about that album/era just always keeps me smiling.

My preference is Soul SirkUS... hands down. I do like HSAS, but the diversity of SS floats my boat. I think Neal just gets better as the years roll on

Voted on the "both" option, as I like both very much. However, I still think my favorite Neal side project, that I have heard, is Abraxas Pool. Love the CD and they were a great band live. I still find my self listening to Beyond the Thunder and the Schon/Hammer cds quite a bit too.

Yea, there's a LOT of Neal side-projects to draw from but I just chose these 2 because, again, of the disagreement I had yesterday with someone (and this thread is NOT a slam on that person at all, it just got me wondering).
Hell, I love the Hardline album and the Bad English stuff was fantastic as well.

Big fan of both but at this point I'd even take Soul Sirkus over (post-SA) Journey.

I picked HSAS, but I really love Neal's solo stuff too. Voice and Beyond the Thunder are so sexy...

I haven't been able to get into his other stuff, so for me personally I say stick with Journey.

I voted for both but Untold Passion is still my Neal favourite of all time. Great playing on that one, but being a Neal junkie everything he does will be absorbed by me.

I like Untold Passion and Here to Stay, but those two albums sound kind of dated now, thanks to Jan Hammer's 80's keyboards. HSAS still sounds fresh today.

HSAS was pretty ballsy, turning away from big pop careers to do a record that rocked and
was fairly artistic at times. And, record it live. I loved it then, and still like it now.
Soul Sirkus was a kickass band, especially live. Both projects reek of "fun" when listening back.
I also get that impression when listening to "the Hendrix Set".

That's because you like ROR-type pop stuff.

HARDLINE and Bad English were much better than HSAS and SS IMHO!

HSAS rocks!!!! I never cared for Bad English...all style, no substance. Hardline...eh, whatever. The HSAS album is amazing. Sammy sang his ass off on that mutha, too.

Schon/Hammer should've been on this poll, too.

I love ROR to be sure...(which features some of Schon's best solos, I reckon - despite the lack of his rhythm guitar on most of the songs) but I also love all the earlier Journey albums as well...plus a whole range of metal bands. So the 'heaviness' or lack of pop in Schon's solo work isn't a problem.
For me, the material just isn't that great. Bad English, Hardline, Soul Sirkus, HSAS...it all sounds like second division rock to me. And the smooth jazz albums...well, don't get me started on those...
I know you're a total Loon when it comes to Schon and are easily offended...so I'll just quickly say that I'm a huge fan of Schon's work in Journey. But I do think that his obsessive, relentless need to record and tour has diminished the quality of of his output over the decades.

I agree...and I would have voted for Schon/Hammer if it had.
