Doesn't it speak volumes......

Doesnt it speak volumes that JSS is there for one week and BAM! - they have installed a studio and are presumably writing, recording etc.
Y'know, doing all the things a functioning active band is supposed to be doing?
If there was a studio on the bus during Augeri's tenure, it sure as hell wasn't used for recording new music.
What was it used for I must wonder?
Draping freshly washed red leathers over to dry?
Two and a half piddling albums over the span of 8 years?- Christ, that's pitiful.
I think "Flock of Seagulls" has put out more than that.

With the insertion of a gutsy new frontman, I have a strong feeling that a new creative dawn may be rising.

There is that small matter of making the change official.

With JSS on the team (for however long), maybe the guys wanted to have the ability to record. We all know JSS is a great talent (both singer and songwriter) in his own right. He's worked with Neil and Deen before. Why not dust off the studio? Great way to pass the time.

Funny how people tend to knock Arrival and Generations and Red13. I like aspects of all of them. There are more songs on Frontiers that I do NOT like than like, as compared to the Arrival or Generations.

arrival was awesome actually... as is Generations... not pitful by any means.. just not HUGE commercially... Only dumb thing about the Arrival release was not making it WORLD WIDE release in the fall of 2000....and not second guess yourself about what was on it and wait 6 months----by then everyone who cared herd it on Napster... and that was that.

I'm not knocking them, I like both albums.
I just think Neal and Jon remained the principal song writers for both.
Despite what Neal says to the contrary, the Augeri-lineup never gelled as a collaborative writing unit.
A few Neal & Jon penned masterpieces aside, there was never a synergistic trinity to rival that of Perry/Cain/Schon.
It simply never blossomed.
Look at the writing credits on Sirkus, Soto's name is plastered everywhere.
A frontman with this precise "take-charge" attitude is sorely needed.

And for those of you who will say this is a textbook case of JSS ass noshing simply because he reads the forum, I say go royally fuck yourselves!

Although I liked Arrival, Red13 and Generations, I think there is a sense of "going thru the motions" on them, especially Generations. If JSS is gonna stay, I think he will bring out a new excitement in Neal and Jon, like he did with Neal in SS. That in itself could make for some KILLER music. Just remember, whether he was trying to keep things lo-key or telling the truth, JSS did say in here to not read too much into the "studio on the bus". I personnally hope they are getting together (JSS, Jon and Neal) and writing their ASSES off :)

I am not speaking creatively, i mean quantitatively.
Both albums are very good.

Ok, then I will say it.

JSS is the new lead singer and they are going on together. Get used to it.

I was at the Vegas show and I can tell you Journey has kicked it up more that a few notches. JSS has tremendous energy and such a powerful voice, he also has the touch to really get the crowd fired up. I haven't felt that level of energy at a Journey show for quite some time. Oh, for the record- Jeff did not have an trouble hitting any notes- the man can really sing! :D

Making it official eh? Did the guys tell you to do that or did you just decide to do it?

And was Friga okay with you when you met him? You said you didn't think he'd speak to you.

Augeri was never a great songwriter, not like Perry was/is,he was a yes man who did the job for a while.Jeff is a good songwriter and has a strong stage presance and could do well for the band.Though people always talk of Perry's voice they forget he was a master songwriter with Cain and Schon and Rolie, this is what has been missing during Augeri's time, thats why they had the outside writers on Arrival(a good record) and Red 13 sounded like a poormans a.o.r band from Scandanavia in my opinion :? Compare this to Frontiers and you can see how bad the band sounded!

So it seems. "Tall Stories" and "Shine" led me to believe differently though. Sad.

What a bunch of crap. The bottom line is it takes time to properly record, product, and release an album. After Arrival, they never took the time to do it. Red 13 was only half an album. Generations was thrown together. It was NOT Augeri's fault that there were so few albums...in fact his writing is what sparked Generations to be recorded.

I do not believe JSS will make ANY difference. Touring now brings in the money, not releasing albums...and I doubt very much they are going to give up one to do the other.

do you think augeri would step aside... if the guys (and jss) decide that jeff should stay with journey? what about talisman? they have a cd coming out in october... will there be a talisman tour. will jss ever sleep again? }:C) ah! i love the thought of jss staying... especially after seeing him with journey at the irvine show. i can't find the words to tell you guys how awesome that show was. you have to go & see for yourselves. i'm selfish... i want jeff to stay. }:C))

Then explain to me how Jeff and Neal wrote all of the kick ass Soul Sirkus tunes in less than a month!
LESS THAN A MONTH!!!!!

And perhaps you should be asking yourself just why the band never took the time to do it.
Perhaps they felt they had a faulty product unworthy of further investing in?

...in fact his writing is what sparked Generations to be recorded.

Immaterial.

Neal and JSS have proven chemistry.
After 8 dawdling fruitless years Neal and Augeri clearly have very little.
This is all quite simple.
Do try to pay attention you bombastic gas bag.

I would not say obsessed.... the Augeri thing has come and gone, writing chemistry will always be a huge factor in the quality of songs produced. Perhaps the ones you refer to as "obsessed" are the fans that cannot accept the reality of present day.

Can't blame Augeri for Schon and Cain's lack of motivation for putting out new material. I have felt like their hearts are not into creating music that isn't going to make them alot of money...if it was, Neal would have kept Soul Sirkus going. As for their solo efforts, they have probably done as much business with those as they'd hoped. Perhaps JSS would provide a spark, but Neal already had the music for SS ready, he didn't need motivation for that. Regardless of Augeri's or JSS's input, if Cain and Schon had the fire in their bellys (pl?) for new music like they should. They shouldn't have to have a singer kicking them to get off their asses...
