Journey's new sound

Reading recent posts about how JSS seems to have found his place in Journey, made me wonder about a few things…

Why didn't they create more while Augeri was on board...?
I tend to believe the chemistry wasn't strong enough.Maybe they hired SA just for his vocal skills(which he obviously had),and not for his writing talents.Maybe Neal is the kind who needs a good writing partner in order to get inspired.

Putting up a studio so fast, makes me believe that JSS and Neal have a certain kinship, and they are willing to make use of it.
If JSS will stay in Journey, I am curious to hear the results of their work.

Will the new stuff sound like classic Journey or will it have a different touch?
You think they want to keep the sound *legacy* or they feel like exploring something different?

What do you all think?

I hope the new material sounds like "Believe In Me" - harder and faster but with great hooks too. Journey tried the watered-down/80s pastiche approach on "Arrival" and "Generations" without much success - so I'd be keen to see a more agressive and energetic approach. As for the ballads...well, no Journey album is complete without one...but this time round please no more boyband singalongs like "All The Way". I'd rather they went for one over-the-top "Mother Father" style anthem...and maybe one conventional ballad if Cain still has it in him to write a great song...but the production would need to have some oomph this time around.

Overall though it's time - I reckon - for Journey to surprise everyone with a strong dose of testosterone...and as long as it's essentially grandiose and uplifting the tougher direction won't take them too far away from their trademark sound.

cant see any new material for at least another two years, after touring, writing and prep
