Ugly Betty

This is a "new" show soon to be aired (I think) on ABC. When I first saw it advertised a few weeks ago I was immediately struck. It was like, "Hey - is this - could it be...YES! It's the American version of the smash Colombian comedy 'Betty La Fea." My wife is Colombian and 'Betty La Fea' was a VERY popular TV comedy that we used to watch on a Latino station back in Cleveland a couple years ago. I LOVED the show. VERY funny. It's great to see that it's come to America. I can't wait to check it out.
How does this relate to JOURNEY? It's another indication that the media landscape is growing and embracing the Latin community and it's art and culture. This is what was on the horizon a few years ago when I began the Dream JOURNEY Project. I still believe that a Latin rhythm effort by JOURNEY could connect with the Latino community and introduce them to a large, new audience. It could ultimately be a special and endearing addition to their catalog.

I would not be in favor of a whole album full of latin-flavored tunes by Journey. I would probably buy it but they should stick with a track or two instead of a whole CD full.

Any reason why?
I liken this to the Dream After Dream album. Something of an experiment.

Yeah, and I listen to that one once every 2 years.

Nope. Not my kind of music.

Why not? I could see JSS giving us a little Latin flavor and Neal started with Santana so I think it would work. I'd buy it. Different and perhaps getting back to the roots of their music.
I think it would be fun and clever.

Yes! Fun and clever! Exactly! Something that could be the life of the party!

JSS doing latin? Nah. He can stick to what he does best, rockin' out.
In honesty I'm sure I'd buy the album but I doubt I'd play it. Kinda like Red 13. I have 2 copies of that. 1 is still sealed & never listened to-came w/a t-shirt. The other I played oh twice? I should make them into coasters.

Use your imagination. It would be JOURNEY doing it! They'd be SMOKIN' at it!

I think at this late stage in Journey's carreer it would not be that bad an idea. I really liked the Abraxas Pool CD. It would probably work a little better if Greg were still around, but I thought Jon did an admirable job on the live version of La Raza on the 2001 DVD.
I would definately enjoy it, but probably not for the casual fan. But then again, all of us hear are pretty much die hards. I think it would be cool. JMO

Well didn't they start out as a latin fusion group? Look how well that ended up.
Please do not emberrass us fans anymore. Please Frye STOP with the latin thing
it just isn't going to fly. The last thing we need is Journey turning into the Ricky Martin Journey

As I've said before FYRE, this is a well thought out project and I certainly applaud you for that. However, JSS is being brought in for one thing and one thing only. To ROCK. The only way I see your dream project coming to fruition is if Journey goes the Santana route. They get Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony, etc...and release a star-studded album. Otherwise, I can't see it garnering a lick of attention. *NOTE* The two artists mentioned were the first two that popped into my head so don't start fuckin' bashing me.

I think that people forget that JSS is Puerto Rican! It's not a tremendous leap to do a Latin album for him; it perhaps is more difficult to do a rock album.
Think about it; and he does rock admirably.

And you know what's arguably even more popular than latin music?
Hip Hop.
So who's all in favor of Neal and the boys doing a gangsta rap album instead?
I admire your passion, but really, Journey should just do whatever arises organically from the creative process.
"La Raza del Sol" has a spanish flair to it, but that said, I still don't think they should feel pigeonholed to create any certain type of sound. A song or two with a discernible latin influence (ala La Raza) is fine by me.

Not working for me. La Raza del Sol is good, Abraxas Pool is a favorite of mine. Don't need or want a Latin Journey.

With JSS they might be able to do something like this. It could be a "one-off" CD. They could do it before officially announcing JSS in the band so they easily excuse the disc if it is ripped to shreds. But there is a HUGE community for this music, Neal is adept at it, there is Journey history with it.....why not.

Good Idea but, personnally, I wouldn't be interested. Do think, however, that a one-off single/duet with Shakira would be pretty cool. Did you peeps see her perform on the VH1 Aerosmith Tribute? She's got a little Rocker in her... or did she have a little Rocker in her backstage... Hmmmmm...

Sorry...NO. If I want Latin flavored...I'll go with Old Santana.
BUT...if it was just one song...I wouldn't be opposed.

Uh.....wrong. He's American. He was born in New York and raised for the most part in California. He is of Puerto Rican descent.

exactly...
The Wife and I are from Central America, (which by the way, makes us American's too) and we're all about Latin music, but Journey is good old fashioned Rock-n-Roll (or supposed to be), leave the Latin vibe to Santana. They can make that work. If I want to hear new journey, then I want it to rock harder than the last 20 years or releases.

See....that's why I said one song on the next album or something like that. (People don't make B-Sides anymore.lol)
But I love La Raza Del Sol..especially live, so I think they can get away with one every 25 years or so. LOL.
But a full on album....wouldn't be interested. It'd be the only Journey album I don't own.

What's a B-Side??? Is that like a DVD with Widescreen on one side and Full-Screen on the other???

First off, he may be American but his heritage and upbringing appear to be Puerto Rican. The man speaks fluently.
Second, My two step-children are 50% Puerto Rican. Yes, they are American as can be. They have only been to Puerto Rico one time and that was last year. But they are proud of their heritage (they get it from their dad, the full-blooded PR).
Being American essentially means you are something else too.

Accept my apology Marabelle. My post seemed rude. I was merely trying to point out that by nationality (nation of origin) he is American. If you're born here, raised here and prosper here, you're most certainly American and should be damn proud of it. Again, sorry my post seemed condescending...it wasn't meant to.
