JOURNEY - The Rockumentary!

I think this would be a great idea! Being as serious as an apple pie cooling on a window ledge, let's say for a minute that someone creates a rockumentary on JOURNEY. It would appear to be seriously intended, however it wouldn't be long before the audience realized that it was another "Spinal Tap" type of situation.

Instead of the drummer dying, or exploding or whatever, the emphasis would be on the lead vocalist. At each new concert venue, a new vocalist would be waiting in the wings. As the vocalist who was singing at the moment literally "lost his voice," the crowd's attention would be diverted with overhead fireworks, or an extended guitar solo from Neal (all lights off except a directional spot on him). In the darkness surrounding the rest of the stage, a new vocalist would be ushered out, handed a mic and when Neal finished his solo, the band would kick up again without missing a beat with a new vocalist!

The new vocalist would be dressed exactly like the previous one and things would go on as if nothing had changed. What a premise!

Oh, wait a minute! That IS what's happening (except for dressing alike)! My bad...

No. The idea of Marky Mark in a hard rock band was just too disgusting for me to stomach.

I don't care what he calls himself these days, he's Marky F'ing Mark until the day he dies.

They could totally do it in retrospect....have Steve Perry thinking back type of thing and bring it forward....perfect person to play him is John Cusack...

John Cusak as Steve Perry? Not sure about that one, but Cusack is a great actor.

I really think this would be hilarious, especially if you got the same group of people who did Spinal Tap - masters of improv. They were hilarious!

Rockstar was a good movie, in my opinion. I never followed Mark as Marky Mark, so I have no idea what he was prior to getting into movies. He's not a half bad actor and while I wish the movie had followed the real life version more closely, it was still interesting to watch.

I think in the Journey Rockumentary, Steve Perry's character should play a large part. A retrospective would add quite a bit to it. In fact, let the whole thing be seen from his point of view and take it to nearly a caricature level of the band and the antics. Add some "heresay" and totally blow it out of proportion and it would be really funny. Example: heresay - Perry throws a fire extinguisher at a producer in the studio. In the movie, instead of a fire extinguisher, he could pick up "The Whale" and throw it at him to make it even more implausible, yet funny.

The funniest aspect of it though would be the revolving door of lead vocalists. I can already see it. I should storyboard this puppy out!

Come on, I know he's looked better recently but do you remember what Perry looked liked during the Sox World Series??? Pesci all the way... actually, that pic of Pesci resembles Perry's look for the ROR promotional pix... Hmmmmm....

Funny funny funny. I vote for Cusack. We have to be able to drool a bit. I can't drool over Brody or Pesci. I can drool over Cusack. And he could pull it off.

STOP! would you want Shirley Mclaine playing the documentary of Charlize Theron? anyway, I just got off the phone with Pesci's people and they said he wouldn't even consider it.

Ironically, they've already made this film, it was called ROCKSTAR. Only Rockstar had an alternate ending, where the "Augeri" character actually pulls the "JSS" character up on the stage to replace his replacement. And there were no tapes. And it was amicable. Gotta love those Hollywood endings.

This pic isn't Pesci... It's Perry remastering his solo stuff last month :)

C'mon, you know I'm just having fun! Perry was my SUPERMAN when I was a kid; I wouldn't REALLY want Pesci to play him. But I'm still not sold on Cusak!

Man, sometimes things just crack you up, don't they?! I shouldn't be taking time out from storyboarding the western I'm going to be shooting in September, but I may just have to spend some time storyboarding at least a few scenes of this out! I've got Storyboard Artist and I can add music, sound effects, animatics and the like and then export it as a Quicktime movie for anyone who would like to see it.

Hey, I'll go for Brody big time! He's great! Maybe Cusack. Pesci? Uh...NO! It's MY storyboard... :D

Actually, no they didn't make this movie. They made rockstar, which while it was a rockumentary as such, it was not done in the vein of Spinal Tap, which is where I'm going to take this.

I saw the alternate ending I guess. I liked the music in the movie!

That guy pulled up onstage at the end is named Miles Kennedy, he is the singer for Alter Bridge (basically the original Creed members w/ a new singer). AWESOME debut album, highly recommend it; Tremonti is a WAY under-rated guitar player :)

LMAOTF!! This is too freakin' funny! There's too much desperation though on "Perry's" face. He should be more snide about it. Cusack's got his motivation all wrong...but I like where you're going with this!! :D
