What do you think. I feel here I can post a thread like this and get some real feeback.

I feel on the albums, he is a good singer - not great. I feel on the live material he is rather medicore to be honest!. That is my feelings. At first I thought JSS is a heavy metal vocalist and alittle rough for Journey, but after hearing some of the tracks, I think he is a good for the band now, I feel if they record a new album with JSS - it could be good for them! what have they got to lose? they are not getting any younger. I think Journey with JSS is a more complete band, as in they now have a singer that is solid and you get a sense of security that his voice will not break or crack, he's simply steller and solid. I always felt uneasy watching Steve Augeri, you know - can he do it, can he hit the notes, and alot of the time he doesn't on the 2001 DVD, he goes for the easy way out and it sounds either karaoke or just piss weak.


I wonder why they chose Augeri in the first place, I mean he is a good vocalist but not super, you know - not like a Steve Perry or an Elton John.

He had a good voice, but was not consistent... and then well, you know the rest.

Good. No complaints until recently.

Inconsistant and occassionally warbly in concert.
Could be relied on nightly to sufficiently cover several songs (Lights, Wheel, Open, Stone, a few others).
His renditions of other songs (even some of his very own) were an out an out bastardization (Be Good to Yourself, Higher Place, etc.)

Great with the fans and a good showman, but that is for another discussion entiriely.

Could u or someone else explain a little about ProTools & what u can do w/it please? I'd like to understand more. Or perhaps point out a web site that explains it. I was thinking the same thing. He never quite got as good as he sounded on the DVD when I saw him live. I was wondering how that was accomplished.

As most DVD's/CD's live are altered by so many bands. But you are correct.

I have so many Augeri live shows that it is crazy. Overall, he was pretty damn good live. Certainly had his faults, but who doesn't? The criticisms posted here are mostly valid though. I liked him overall for the most part.

Most of us who saw Augeri on some of his first shows with Journey in '98, can not deny that you were very impressed with the guy...as a matter of fact I was amazed at how well he pulled off those challenging Steve Perry vocals. Steve Augeri has done a very commendable job filling some very big shoes. Sadly, 7 years of relentless touring have taken it's toll on Steve's chords. I truly hope Steve Augeri can return to the stage with Journey, soon!

I had that same experience. It was amazing. If you closed your eyes you would swear that Steve Perry was still up there singing. That was in 1998 and it was the best that I've ever heard Augeri sound. I saw him several more times after that and he was still very impressive, but not as note perfect or as magical as that first performance.

He was live most of the time. At least into 2004. I could bore you with the details, but why bother. I have enough shows to tell now when the B.S. started. Would have never caught it without Deano's help to be perfectly honest.

Mentioning SA being 48 is something a lot of folks forget. Good call.

Ok I am officially tired of all this "I hate Augeri" "No I love Augeri" stuff. The guy stepped down (please let's not get into whether it was voluntary of not). He's gone. Like it or lump it. Augeri wasn't Perry. JSS isn't Perry. Perry doesn't want a damned thing to do w/Journey anymore. We're all just blowing smoke. Some people like Augeri, some didn't. Whatever. I even know people who hated Perry believe it or not. It's all a matter of taste isn't it? Perry's gone from Journey. Augeri is gone from Journey. JSS is up there.
