Hello all,
Well I’m new here obviously so hi !! Been lurking for a while and watching the JSS vs. SS vs. JSS threads and wishing there was a celebrity death match episode with them. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you ever heard an old Journey tribute band called ESCAPE (surprise!) ? These guys were from Ohio and the singers name was Jason Kelty. This guy was amazing and I mean amazing, He nailed everything and would ad-lib higher notes than Perry. This is the guy that should be fronting Journey IMHO. Afraid that he might not be pretty enough which is kind of a requirement these days which is such a shame. Nothing against JSS or SS and I believe Journey is still a great band with JSS from the boots. This is an old clip of that band playing "Loving you is easy". It was done in a studio for some local Ohio tribute album. This guy did Mother Father as good as Perry does on the live 81 DVD and I swear he made it look easy. Never heard him strain or even falter in the dozen or so times I saw them and as I said earlier, he would ad-lib higher harmonies than Perry and not in falsetto. This guy had a freakish 1 in a million vocal range. I wonder what happened to him.

Wow, what an absolutely incredible voice. Now THAT is the Journey sound I'm missing so much with JSS (going by the 3 boots I have).

A video ? Oh man, I would kill for that considering I was at most of their shows. I want to find him to see what he is doing. I am involved in a music project I would love for him to sing for (not journey related) as we have an indie deal (which I cant talk about yet) and he would be the man for the job !!

I remember this guy! Yeah, he had/has a great voice!! Sounds a lot like Perry! I remember there being a video or a couple of them from this guy and his band.
He used to post on one of the boards a number of years ago.

I guess ESCAPE is no more with Jason. They've reformed as Bon-Journey and you can check them out here:

I'd like to hear more from Jason myself.

if journey went ahead with a steve perry "clone" they would be looked at as one big fat joke. believe me. there is only one steve perry. }:C)
thanks for the link anyway... he really does sound like sp... but like always something is missing... it's NOT steve perry! };C)) sure you can copy/mimic his voice but you can't copy the heart & soul that was/is sp.
no clones or wanna~bes! }:C)

Yeah, I agree. I think Jason sounds/sounded great though. He may have realized that he was pigeon-holed too. He sounds so much like Perry, how do you get work, except in a tribute band?

Great voice!
I remember reading somewhere that he's become a devout Christian and has left music and the rest of his past behind.

Thing about Steve Perry
is he didn;t do it in falsetto
He hit the notes dead on
pure and it;s not easy to do
esp without any evidence of changing voices
I have a range
and not a bad voice
and he still amazes me!
I bow to you Steve Perry....

Really? Hadn't heard that. Good for him. Wonder why he felt that being a Christian and singing Journey tunes was not compatible?

Yeah I cant imagine that. I met the guy quite a few tims as I am from Louisville, Ky which is about the only place they played. Ahh the Toy Tiger and how I miss that club. It was the best bar this city ever had for music period ! He seemed as sober as a nun (no pun intended). I cant say I ever remember seeing him with even a beer. I relly woudl like to get this guy to listen to some tracks we are working on for an indie lable. I am happy for anyone who has found faith in god and can lt go of a bad past. I have to say that I dont think god would object to journey. Its a a lot about love and benign for the most part......
