I took it with a digital camera, not a studio camera. Common sense says digital camera's sound shitty on the camera mode. No shit it's gonna sound bad, what do you expect

I think he's referring to the fact that JSS does not sound like Journey, not that the quality was that bad. I tend to agree. I seem to be in the minority. Jeff is a great singer, but he is STILL not hitting those higher notes, and I can hear it even in these vids, quality not withstanding. Dammit they need to lower the friggin keys so he can hit them. What the hell is so god damned hard about it? Give the guy a chance to succeed if you REALLY want him to.

Oh yah, my bad, jumped the gun. But anyways he struggles on Seperate Ways mostly everytime.."In VAAaaaaaAIIIN....in VAAAAAIIN" He can't hit that note, he tries to go to Perry level and fails miserably. He has his own style singing the songs but mixes in trying to do an Perry/Augeri sound to his own. I like his sound. Perry/Augeri/or Soto...I guess I just like the music as a whole.

Nice try but I am on the video buisness
I videotaped Dennis DeYoung with my dcam and it sounded great
Im saying the singing sounded terrible
Just another version of someone singing Perry tunes
When is it going to end?

Or make a deal with Perry and end this farse.
This has gone on long enough
Im sure they have enough money now to last them a few summers off.

Right you are, froy. Trying for range with a scream, just doesn't cut it. Those wonderful songs are being savaged.

I'm in agreement, I'm afraid. Some of these boot clips I've heard are no better than Steve's last handful of shows before he left the tour. To be honest, I'm really bewildered as to why all the praise is being heaped on Soto. Yes, I liked him before all this-still do-but he is not getting better. His voice is just not suited to Journey...not many vocalists' are. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Augeri did a Hell of a job during his tenure, especially enduring so many tours. These songs are not easy to sing, and that's an understatement. Like I said, I like Soto, but Journey is as much about the vocals as the music. Soto can have stage presence galore-that ain't gonna save the songs.

It still ain't working for me. He sounded better in concert than I expected. Much better. He's a great singer. Just not for Journey IMHO.

I went to a Genesis show quite a few years back at Veteran's Stadium in Philly. Phil Collins was having trouble vocally that night so they lowered ALL the songs. It did sound a little different but he was able to hit the notes and it was still a helluva show. And the best part? It was LIVE :)

Get your hearing checked. He hits maybe one bad note in that sequence. Other than that, it sounded fine. Does it sound a bit different than Journey fans are used to hearing? Yes, but not enough different that most Journey fans would give a flying rat turd.

I think JSS has gotten a lot better of the past few weeks but, IMHO, it still doesn't sound like Journey. He's a great guy with excellent energy on stage but it just doesn't sound like Journey to me. I'm not on board with dropping keys either. I that won't make things sound any better and will give the music a more ominous tone. Hell if you're dropping keys you might as well drop D tune Neal and let him do the one finger chord boogie for talentless players and give it that evil tone, NOT!

Can someone please explain to me what Journey "sounds" like?? If we all donated a penny for every time that damn comment was made on every freaking board we could pay off the national debt. Journey @ it's onset sounded NOTHING like Journey of the early-mid 80's......which sounds NOTHING like Journey of the late 80's....which sounds NOTHING like Journey of the early 2000s....Yeah - Jeff is NOT Gregg Rolie....Jeff is NOT Steve Perry....Jeff is NOT Steve Augeri...and why would you want him to be???? Maybe we ought to all revolt and have HIM up there lip-synching to "sound like Journey"..........

It seems to me that "doesn't sound like Journey" actually means "doesn't sound like Perry".

And that, Matty my friend, is why it will ALWAYS be an uphill battle for Journey in the future.
They could record an album w/ JSS that sonically and musically ranks up there with ESCAPE and FRONTIERS but it will not get the credit it deserves because critics, media moguls and fans alike will all fall back on that pittiful rationale...
"This doesn't sound like Journey (Perry)!"

The only real hope at success, as dictated by the big corporate machines, would be if enuff promotion is thrown at the masses and a 'younger' audience gravitates towards someone like Jeff because, even at 41 (in November), Jeff has the look, vocal strength and presence to match any of the 20-somethings out there right now.
That will start with management, a new one hopefully that work thier asses off for the band and gets them the exposure they will need.

exactly!

so if this is true maybe steve perry was right when he asked neal & jon not to crack the stone? hmm...

it just seems some fans just can't move along & accept changes. i know it took me a long time too... it still stings at times but i LOVE jss so it hurts a little less. i can honestly say if it was anyone else i'd prolly feel differently. }:C)

it is cool that journey has such passionate fans. }=C))

I think fans can accept change, I feel like I can without a lot of issue. What I expect to say to my self when hearing this band is Holy Fuck, these guys kick ass and sound great. I don't feel that way with JSS singing. Its just my opinion but I don't get that feeling anymore with Journey. I expect to get goosebumps when I hear the first few bars of Stone in Love and I don't. I love JSS as well but I still don't think his voice fits well but that has been covered before. In my opinion, if they carry on with JSS fine, just call it what it is, Soul SirkUS. Its not Journey. And your right about fans being passionate about this band. That is what makes this board so interesting.

L8r!
