I'd have to put myself in the undecided camp, as of right now. From a personality standpoint, Jeff is the best guy this band could ever have. The guy just GETS IT! From a musical standpoint...I have to see the guy live or a DVD of him singing Journey material. I will say that the soundcheck Jeff presently has posted on his website singing I'll Be Alright Without You sounds really good, so I'm definitely encouraged.

By the way, pardon my Journey ignorance here, but fifth incarnation??? Am I missing something here? I know about Rolie, Perry, Augeri and JSS. Who am I forgetting? Was the fifth guy in Journey for more than a week? Sorry if it's an ignorant question, but I've been listening to Journey since the late 70's and don't really remember any era, but Perry's counting for much.

John...she's probably counting Fleischman, I think.

I agree with you...I'm optimistic for the first time in years...but I'm not at the "Hell Yes" stage quite yet...

I need to see them live - and more importrantly I'd like to hear what a new album would be like. An energetic and charismatic performance of the old hits is great - but I can't start comparing this line-up to the classic Perry years until I get a chance to see what the song-writing is like.

It might be a reference to when Jon joined the band. There was a definate change with his addition...enough to mark it as an "era".

Like any sane rational human being, I will reserve judgement until I see and hear the dude on stage.

I am admittedly optimistic though.
By all accounts, JSS has (at the very least) brought renewed vigor and energy into the band.
Precisely what was missing the last couple times I saw them.

I figured since we have to count Augeri's 8yr humbled run, why not give credit to Fleischman's 3 months

Hell yeah! I'm very optimistic about Journey's future now!

Hopefully we're not in for a huge letdown. Meaning Journey and/or JSS have said nothing, at least not publicly, about the future direction of Journey, or whether or not JSS is in it for the long haul.

I'm in the "undecided" camp. Without a new song or album I can't give a yes or no answer. How could anyone? I don't care if he IS as good as Perry in concert, as that means nothing. Those songs are not his. I'm waiting to see how HIS songwriting, coupled with the chemistry he has with the band, translates into an album. Then, and only then, will I be able to give a definitive "Hell Yes" or "Hell No" answer.

PS If someone put a gun to my head and said, "Listen fucker, it's either "Hell Yes" or "Hell No"....THEN I'm the "Hell Yes" camp!!

Agreed.

Personally I like this lineup - it is not the 5th incarnation, not at all. there isn't an album out, or a single, just some weeks touring because the current official frontman is away. Until a new CD comes out, then I think it is safe to asume.

But at the end of the day this is still Journey, and there will never be another lineup such as Perry, Smith, Valory, Schon, Cain - there just isn't a substitute for what was in the 80's, you can bring the greatest singer today and it would not make a difference. I would buy another Journey album if JSS was involved - but like anything else 1977 - 1986 will always be the strongest period for this band.
