I don't buy the "big Journey comeback"

I don’t agree with the theory of Journey to make the biggest comeback ever.

It just doesn’t make sense. If any record companies were interested in JSS, they would have signed Soul Sirkus, don’t you agree? Neal said it himself that SS cost him over $300,000 from his own pocket. Why JSS with Journey will make the difference? It doesn’t add up.
JSS’s claim to fame was 20 years ago. And a lot of people don’t know who the heck he is. Were you paying attention at your shows? I know I was. Jeez, there are still people at the shows that don’t know Perry left! And for the record, that idiot is usually right next to me! LOL. Don’t get me wrong, I know JSS has fans, but not THAT many. Not enough to bring Journey to a comeback.
I love Journey and I’m a hugh fan. I wish this band all the luck in the world, but I just don’t see it happening. People SAT thru Arrival and Generations Songs. The people at the shows just aren’t into the new stuff. They want the OLD stuff. Only the real die hard Journey fans want the new stuff, and there aren’t enough of us to make it worth their while financially.
Howard Stern once said: “the last thing I want to hear from a band at a concert say is “here’s something off our new album”.
And ya know what? It’s true. (you can laugh at me for quoting Stern, but that statement happens to be true) Do you think they are going to write a KILLER ALBUM and go tour with it. Do you think they are going to play a new album and “a couple” of old songs? Do you really think the people would want to hear that?
I know some of you claim to have “spoken to the band” and that they are all psyched up for this big comeback! But these guys have been in the business long enough to know better. Especially Neal, because he JUST went through it with Soul Sirkus.
Unless Jon BonJovi comes out with them, there isn’t going to be a comeback. (yes, that was sarcastic) JBJ seems to be the only older band that can STILL FILL AND PLAY STADIUMS. What am I missing here??!!?? How can they arrange this big comeback?

Please shed some light, I must be missing something.

Huge push from management to the corporate/media masses.
Tons of exposure on radio and TV as a result of management doing its job right.
A big tour commencing after a month or 2 of this publicity onslaught.
That is the only way it will work.

SS can't be compared to Journey because of 1 reason: They weren't named Journey. that name alone still carries weight on the market. As for Jeff, you're right. Not many people know who he is but...
Jeff has a HUGE following overseas and, because of this tour, Jeff has been introduced to America in a big way and people will remember... Just my opinion.

MindFreak, thank you for expressing the same opinion that many others have already expressed, just using different words!

OK, here I go. I will never be able to match wits with the likes of Deano and Niggy on Journey facts (at least not without the help of my husband). So I will not even attempt to say why the band has had the successess and failures that it has had over the years. But, I will say this; I have gone to two concerts this year and they have put to shame any concert that I have ever been to, Journey or otherwise! And it wasn't Def Leppard that kicked ass, it was Journey!!! So, you say that you can't see a comeback in store, well, maybe you need to redefine what a comeback is. You are right, they may never have a top 10 song again, they may never fill stadiums again....but maybe the will. Regardless, they have re-energized their fans, the have gained new fans, they have given new life to the "Dirty Dozen". Isn't that a comeback?? And all in less than three months time (THANK YOU JSS). I say with that kind of energy and momentum, you my friend, will be proven wrong!!!!!!!

And as far as you comments that imply that JSS is a has been-you couldn't be more wrong!!!!!!!!!!! this boy can do it all!!! Maybe the reason he isn't a household name in the states YET is that he wasn't with the right team.....he is now!

I would close by saying "see ya at the STADIUM" but I'm sure that the stadium is going to be too full for me to ever find you!!!!!

I don't see them making a "big comeback", either.

All I know is...they are kicking some ass live once again. And with Jeff, I think they have the tremendous potential to put out a damn good studio album. I could give a shit whether the "masses" get it, or not. As long as it kicks MY ass...that's all that matters to me.

They need U2s management behind them. Get out of the Classic Rock black hole.

Hey Freak! U2, Billy Joel, Elton John, Clapton, Aerosmith, Springsteen, Rolling Stones, Queen, Eagles, Dylan, Ozzy, KISS - all can still fill stadiums.

Yep. That's why I don't believe it unless it comes straight from their mouths in an interview.

I am not looking to "match wits" with anyone. I am sincere with my request for someone to explain it to me.
As far JSS, I didnt mean any disrespect. To claify, JSS is mostly known for his work with Yngwie from a long time ago. I just bought his Queen DVD and I love it. he has the best powerful voice.

My guess is this. You're going to see Journey on so many TV shows next year that you won't know what hit you. This will be right AFTER they take Europe by storm. Soto is huge in Europe and the momentum, IF channeled properly, should hit U.S. shores. Some major radio interviews, a few "live" segments of music on air, proper management and a band that finally WANTS to be big again will create quite a stir. While I'm not nearly as optimistic as Deano I will say this. I predict the next Journey album, if done with Soto at lead, WILL go gold. 500,000, in my opinion, is a VERY bold prediction, and one I'm willing to stand by. JSS is connecting with fans like no other Journey vocalist ever. Not saying he's the best, that title will always be SP's, but he has what they need NOW.

I think that the only way they could make a big comeback is by writing some NEW HIT records. JBJ is still "relevant" because they are writing songs that are getting played. As are Aerosmith.

I think it's possible for them to do this with JSS, but is it likely??? Hope so.

Oh, and a little freakin' promotion, would hurt either. lol

Don't know why Soul Sirkus didn't work, but I would venture a guess--didn't have the name Journey !!!!! :) I've listened to some Soul Sirkus on the internet and was surprised at how good they were-how could it go wrong with Neal playing.
Also why are their concerts selling out now?---and don't tell me bc of DL. They sucked big time. couldn't understand one word they sang and it was extremely loud.

One more note of wisdom--if Perry can't sing, he should write songs with Neal and Jon-what a team they were! incredible tunes. :) Maybe Neal should consult with him before doing the next album!!!!!!!

Mu guess is that writing the new album is already happening. We all know that JSS can write excellent songs with Neal, just look at "Believe in me" from his LITT album. Together with the name Journey it will give you lots of sales.
Let's wait and see.

Some believe Journey can and will make a comeback, some don't. I happen to believe it will happen. The limitations on what the band can do live have been lifted and, imo, makes all the difference in the world.

Steve Perry

Thats their ONLY shot to be revelant to a new CD buying culture. Otherwise it will remain the butts and guts circuit.

WRONG TWO WORDS... they dont need SP back ...just a very radio friendly POWER BALLAD... to help bring back what they started with Lights back in 1978... and carried to the next level with Open Arms...

Why would you want a 57 year old Perry over a 40 year old JSS? JSS has a voice and stage presence that Perry can now only dream of. Perry WAS great, but he is done. JSS has only just begun...

Note what I said must happen BEFORE I mentioned the SS analogy...

Huge push from management to the corporate/media masses.

A big tour commencing after a month or 2 of this publicity onslaught.
That is the only way it will work.

ARRIVAL got none of that.
I thought ARRIVAL was a killer album and not affraid to say it out in public. It was far superior to TBF and better, SONGWRITING-wise not VOCALLY, than ROR. If it would've gotten the same publicity push that every BJ, U2 and Aerosmith release gets, it would've been a huge success.

Jeff will be 41 in November.
Those killer first to YingYang albums he sung on... he was 18 when he got that gig!

Another thing that Jeff will bring to the table for this band is RESPECT from more 'insiders'.
Most folks entrenched in the music biz know Neal and even Jon as legendary songwriters/musicians.
Augeri never had much cred in that circle.
Jeff has gained (and much deservedly so) a huge following and amount of respect in the biz because of his vast catalogue of quality work.
He brings "more Street Cred" to this band...
And like you, most folks don't realize just how old he is; he easily connects with the younger audience. That is another thing this band has not had in a long time - A frontman that connects equally with several different generations of fans.

There are so many positives right now that I'm going outa my mind wondering what could be in store for us :)

I tend to agree with you, however at the same time, if they have the right management AND that management can push a label to take them on, then there is a good to excellent chance that they will rise toward the heights again.

Barring that, I'm a bit pessimistic about Journey's comeback myself. Having said that though, I recognize that anything could happen. I'm simply not convinced that what many are talking about WILL happen. It remains to be seen.
