Yeah, I'm not quite sure where he was singing or what was going on, but did you hear the music track in the background? It's almost like his mic was way too loud and the music was way too soft.

Surely it's a joke/fake? I can't hear any similarity between THAT voice and his recorded voice whatsoever. What's to stop anyone taking any video, adding their own strangled cat vocals and putting it up online? Or am I missing something?

Yep, you are missing something - i'm afraid as horrible as it was, it was reportedly very real! The reason for his 'good' performance on record is the same as that that of many artists with the right image and proper financial backing, Autotune and other studio wizardary.

This live perfomance was 'unique' that's for sure.

Yep, that's definitely him "singing," although I have cats who wail better than he does. I would NOT be surprised at all to find that many, if not MOST bands and single artists use all types of studio post-production effects and wizardy to make them sound great.

I was even disappointed recently when I purchased a Sarah Brightman concert DVD. I love her voice, but I quickly discovered that she was lip-sync'g nearly the entire concert! Now, she COULD have been singing live for the audience and then in post, they dubbed over a lot of her vocals. Either way, I was sorely disappointed because I bought the thing to see her "live" performance.

The same thing happened with Tommy James and the Schondells on a DVD I purchased. Not long ago, he did a live concert in a NYC club. He sounded really great, until I realized that something was off. AFTER the concert, he's in the crowd and you can hear him talking with people. He's saying things like, "Oh, we'll do some "sweetening" in the studio here and there." Well, I listened to it again and this time, I paid close attention. I would have to say that MOST of the DVD was not live at all, because when he DID sing live, he sounded off-key and plain horrible!

I would hazzard a guess that too many artists today rely on studio effects and post-production to make their sound great.

Augeri was doing what probably many other artists do...but just don't get caught.
