Hypothetical situ'

Lets just say, that, for instance, an established rock band, had just got in a replacement singer, for one who had been caught "cheating". The new singer needs time to adjust, and during that adjustment period, was struggling. Due to this, the band/singer were getting a fair amount of negative comments on their fan sites/forums, and especially from someone who had an ability to sway others opinions on those sites. This person was adamant that the new guy was never gonna cut it.

We fast forward some weeks, and this person has had a complete change of opinion, this from someone who is normally steadfast in his views. This consequent change of opinion, in someone whose views are most forceful, then served to change the views of a lot of people on the hypothetical fan site, so much so, in fact, that the new singer was then hailed as a messiah almost... a second coming if you like.

What if we found out that maybe this persons new opinion had been bought by the band, in the form of free tickets, and back stage passes, how would we all feel about this??

do you think that the people who were unwittingly dragged along with this change of opinion would feel foolish... or would they stick to their new opinions??

would they be real pissed to know that this person had been "bought" ??

This is just a "hypothetical" question, and the situ bears no resemblance to any situ in the real world.

well... what do u all think of this "hypothetical" situation.??

First and foremost, McNeil...Grow some balls and go after Deano directly, and stop hiding behind the auspices of your "hypothetical" situation! I think you're giving Deano way too much credit, in terms of his "swaying" how people feel about the music they listen to. Also, not everyone on this site finds Deano to be the most likeable guy on the planet! You should know that better than most! As much as the guy amuses me, I can assure you that some guy I know nothing about is going to form my opinion on who I should like or who I shouldn't like, regardless of what his opinion is. One fan is not going to dictate to Journey Nation who they should accept or not accept as the frontman of the band we've all been listening to for 30 years. I'm sure Deano would be flattered that you actually think he has this much power, but I think you're quite naive if you really believe that. Jeff Scott Soto will be accepted by Journey fans or not, based on his talents and connections with the fans. All the free tickets under the sun won't change this fact! I can tell you that I'm a longtime Journey fan who has just not automatically believed that Jeff is the right fit for Journey's music. That said, I'm not going to come onto an internet forum and tell the guy he sucks just because he isn't Perry. I'm going to go to a concert, buy a cd, buy a DVD and form my own opinion. If it turns out that Jeff's range doesn't work on Journey's catalog of music, for my ears, then I probably won't continue to purchase any Journey music that isn't from their back catalog of hits. I still won't come onto this website and tell the guy he sucks or is struggling. The reality is that whether you like Jeff singing Journey's music or not, he has FAR more talent than guys like you and I, who are passing our days posting messages on websites about Journey, instead of making money off of our "struggling" voices! I'm quite sure Jeff is "struggling" each time he walks into his bank to make a deposit from his current tour!

John... Jeff himself obviously feels that its worth posting up here... hence his response to my comment... as for me talking about Deano... you mentioned his name not me. as for his influence here..are u saying its not pretty big?? You only have to read the fawning posts .... bigger the mouth, bigger the fan club I would say.

Reading stuff here, its quite plain to see, that a lot of people simply dont have the reqd confidence or self belief in their own opinions to voice them..so will look for someone like "Deano" to lead them in their views.

Was Deano directly responsible for the outing of Augeri (tapegate) well he once said he was..so if thats not having any kind of influence, I dont know what the fuck is????

Dont underestimate the power of the people!!

peace bro.

as for the "growing some balls" comment... u have obviously never read my back posts,,I have balls the size of Candlestick Field (Park... thx man!!) my friend!! and Im not afraid to ejaculate over anyone here!!

Deano's change didn't happen some weeks later, or after hearing some decent bootlegs, it happened over night. I think the catalyst for the change in opinion was likely some samples of Jeff singing Journey songs over music tracks performed by the band. They surfaced briefly on Backtalk a couple of years ago. By the time I listened to one of them, the thread was gone. I believe it first appeared on the Soul SirkUS site. I questioned someone I thought would be in know by email back then and was told this was only for Jeff's private amusement. I believe it was probably Neal's audition of Jeff for Journey from a couple of years ago. This didn't work because Friga didn't want JSS in the band, as Deano said some months ago. I think perhaps someone gave Deano a private listen to those tracks and changed his mind, just speculation on my part based on the sudden change of opinion.

I wouldn't let anyone else's comments determine whether I like something or not. I love JSS's vocals (much stronger than Steve A's) and Journey's my favourite band so I was happy anyway I suppose.

On a side note, if this is a dig at Deano, I'm sure he'll deal with it without breaking too much sweat. Sometimes the guy is out of order, most of the time he makes me laugh, so I've no problem with him in any shape or form. I do know that he does have genuine contacts on the "inside", as it were, that make him more informed than most of us here so I think it's good he chooses to post here.

What each of us think of Deano really has no bearing here. I just have a real problem with some cheesedick coming on here constantly stirring the shit pot and trying to sway what people think of a particular person. I'll form my own opinions....and I'm relatively sure the rest of the people here can too.

McNeil...

I'm thrilled Jeff posts here so often. I also love the fact that the dude goes after anyone who tells him he sucks! I find it quite refreshing to see a guy defend his honor with fans telling him that he isn't quite good enough! That fact alone would make me support the guy and give him a shot!

To your point about Deano...I read plenty of posts. I've only been a member here for a short while, but have been reading posts here for years and finally signed up when I grew tired of the nonsense on the other site! So what if some people like Deano. I've read my fair share of posts from people who hate the guy. It's all okay. Deano brings it all on himself, and I have no doubt that he can handle anything that anyone wants to sling at him. Also, I can't speak for anyone else here, but I can assure you that I don't like Deano because of his big mouth. The reality is that the guy is way over the top, most of the time on here. That said, I think some of us just find the guy amusing, and that's our right. Also, I think if you cut away some of Deano's bullshit, he still brings plenty to the table and if nothing else, he at least has an opinion, and that's what a message board is all about! I just think you're nuts if you really think Deano is influencing how Journey fans feel about the music. I can assure you that if Deano was my best friend of 25 years, his opinion would still have ZERO bearing on how I felt about ANY lead singer brought into Journey. Heck, Deano is on here saying this is the best lineup of Journey, ever! That alone tells me he's full of shit, because we all know that the Perry lineup of Journey will always be the "Classic Journey" lineup we all grew up with. Jeff will even tell you that!

By the way McNeil, Wasn't it called "Candlestick Park"? Nonetheless...good line by you!

I can form my own opinions, thank you very much. I don't need anyone to sway me on that. I like JSS because he has a hellva good voice, and he makes Journey exciting once again, something I haven't felt since Perry left.

So take your hypothectical situtation and shove it up your ass.

Great replies! Don't forget to include all the life-less types that think their drivel on an internet chat room, viewed by maybe a hundred or so people at best, can affect how a band, that's sold millions and has millions of fans, does business. It's just laughable.

Whether it's a hypothetical situation or not, I think McNeil might have a point. Don't you think it's a bit weird that Deano's getting to be in about the guys so much?

As for what NoMoreTails said about the sound samples of JSS singing Journey music, I've wondered for a while if he was gonna end up in Journey... long before I even heard SA. Why? Because he was working with Neal for a start, then there was the fact that his setlist in Newcastle was 50% Journey songs. Would that not make you wonder? I think it's possible that Neal did want him in the band long ago, but that Friga possibly didn't but does now.

Like I said before, there's obviously been a lot going on in the background that we'll never know about.

How much is Deano really getting to "be around the guys?"

You are a sorry assed writer. I can't decipher your Euro writing, if you can call it that.

Candlestick Park, is in San Francisco and it was primarily baseball first (Giants), then home to the 49'ers, ie, REAL FOOTBALL, not that soccer crap. Soccer isn't even a sport.

Your post, McNeil. I like that you are interested in me and my "relationship" to the band. I just don't think you are all that close though. I like how I wasn't mentioned in your original post, but it was about me. Look, if you don't believe what I say, or what I think, fine. Say so, and move on. You don't need to crack any code. It's not like I am calling up JSS to play darts and drink Heineys tonight...or calling up Schonny to go for a love ride down to Minneapolis. Dude, you think Friga will play 18 with me today?

Probably not.

Hey McNeil...

Do you ever visit Journey's "official website"??? If so, you would appreciate the fact that this place is a "big ole spice pot" (by the way...who the fuck uses the word "ole"). Anyway, I digress...My point is that this website is SUPERB! Kudos to Andrew for making this site one where fans can actually talk openly and intelligently (okay, so it sometimes spirals into less intelligent areas!). Over on Journey's "official website", you can't say shit (literally...they'll give you four asterisks to represent the four letters in shit!) I always thought because it was the fan's "official website", that it was the place to be, which is why I posted over there for almost 6 freakin' years! It just gets to the point where you're tired of having everything you say censored and get tired of reading page after page of old, horny broads lusting after some dude in red leather pants that not one of them could ever get close to! Hell, I think Andrew should have some way to identify these Augeri wiggle weirdos to keep them the hell off of this site, so this site remains about the music of Journey and not about some old, washed up broad's "schoolgirl" crush on "Stevie Awesome". Okay...I'm done with my rant, now!

John from Boston

yes John..in total agreement!!!

I love this place too.... rants are allowed..great... now just need a feature that allows us all to become 3d online characters... so I can pummel the shit out of a couple people here, in a harmless kinda way... can u fix that up Wombat??
maybe I can entice Deano onto "Battlefield" online... so I can napalm his ass !!!

True dat. Only needs the "Ignore" feature to make it perfect.

Hell no.

Know how much comedy we'd be devoid of with that?

One man's comedy is another man's wasted time.

Last time I checked, NO Euro could beat my ass...NO Euro. Dude, if any Euro got the best of me, I would kill myself.

You wanna spar? I am game, but I believe that just burdens Andrew, and I respect that fucker too much, so as much as I want to tangle with your smelly breathed ass, I will take the high road.
