Ok, a little btish, but
I’ve noticed that we have such a wide variety of tastes (even of Journey songs).
Just curious:
“Who do you love,” lol? (include some not so obvious ones, too, pls) Who do you hate?
& who do you recommend? (less known music. & share clips if poss)
1. Journey is my favorite to the point of obsession, but I also love Johnny Cash, Alison Krauss, Talking Heads, Queen, Violent Femmes, Pixies, Natalie Merchant/10,000 Maniacs, The Cure, Kate Bush, The Killers, PJ Harvey, Pretenders, Ami Lee/Evanescence, and long walks on the beach at night…
2. I don’t think there’s a genre out there that doesn’t have something I love in it (could be wrong, though, lol), but I REALLY don't like Air Supply (though there’s one song that’s a little catchy), Fergie, REO Speedwagon’s studio stuff (pretty good live, though), Scissor Sisters, James Blount… I’m sure I’ll think of more.
& I’ll get back to you on the recommend one, lol.
Oh, and 4. favorite concerts?
4. Talking Heads, Prince, The Who (w/ moon), …
that’s enough excitement for one night, lol
Goodnight!

I'll play but mine is varied.
1. Who I love: Steve Perry, Journey, Queen (only w/Freddie), Don Henley, The Eagles, INXS (only w/Michael tho--not this line up), Hall & Oates, Supertramp, Foreigner, Toto, Kate Bush, Bryan Adams, Survivor, Tom Petty, Dire Straits, Talking Heads, Thin Lizzy, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, Huey Lewis & The News, Whitesnake, Styx, The Kinks, Paul Carrack, Squeeze, The Boomtown Rats, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins (early stuff), Genesis, Steve Winwood, Pat Benatar, Wang Chung, Asia, REO Speedwagon, Go West, Steely Dan (old stuff only), Rush (old stuff only), The Who, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Kenny Loggins, The Police, Gerry Rafferty, Yaz, Culture Club, Starship, Coldplay, Green Day, very early Elton John up to "Captain Fantastic" album, early Billy Joel up to "Glass Houses" album & some Chicago (w/Peter).
(I'm so 80s, I know.)
2. Who I hate: ANY rap/hip/hop music. ANY classical music. ANY country music. Barry Manilow, Air Supply & a lot more I can't think of but they're the tops.
3. Recommend: Out of today's music u mean? I can't think of anything. I gave up hoping years ago.
4. Favorite concerts: Journey, Steve Perry, Don Henley.

I so can’t sleep, damn it. Tomorrow is going be hell.
“I don’t like Mondays, Tell me why…” what a great song!
And I LOVE Captain Fantastic, and everything before. (was your list up TO or did it include CF?) I really love “11-17-70”
Think I’ll dig that one out and let the ambien do it’s thing.

I can't sleep either. I'm in serious pain in my leg. Demerol helps but doesn't make me sleepy. & I swore I was going to bed early.
Sir Bob is the absolute shit. I met him in Ireland by accident in a "pub" & he was just an every day guy.
My list
definitely includes Captain Fantastic. That was the BEST album altho very few agree w/me on that. The lyrics of "Writing" always got me: "Will the things we wrote today sound as good tomorrow? Will we still be a-writing in approaching years". They weren't writing for a while after that & when they came back, they didn't write as good IMHO. But that album still sounds as good to me today (um 31 yrs later?) as it did way back then. I actually like to play the vinyl version just for old times sake (I have about 500 vinyl albums I won't part with). Fuck I'm old. But I was just a little girl then. My big sister bought the album & we turned the sound waaaay up when the old folks went out. We played that & Queen's "A Night At The Opera" & danced our asses off while sis smoked a doobie out the window. Our mother hated both albums w/a passion. Memories!

Great stories (except for the pain part, sorry to hear that!)
Not surprised about Sir Bob, lol.
CF is one of the greatest albums ever, imo. I played the hell out of the whole thing, but for some reason really put a dent where "Captain Fantasic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" was. LOVE!!! that song.
and KB! don't get me started. Hounds of Love, also one of the greatest albums ever. Morning Fog, Big Sky...
actually getting sleepy. YAY!
hope your leg gets better!!!
Hey AR, who is Cowboy Mouth? can you share anything?

Sure...why not.
1. Who I love: Steve Perry, Journey, Aerosmith, Yes, Boston, David Bowie, Metallica, Disturbed, Evanescence, Green Day, Nickelback, Staind, Guns N Roses (original only), Panic Channel, Circus Diablo, Camp Freddy, the Cult, Velvet Revolver, Lacuna Coil, Renaissance, Ozzie, Nirvana (what a shame), INXS (but not crazy about new guy). I like my music either melodic or loud and hard. Combo of both kicks ass.
2. Who I hate: Rap/Hip-Hop/Country. Makes my skin crawl.
3. Recommend: Evanescence - Amy's new song "Call Me When You're Sober" is brilliant. Again. Panic Channel - Why Cry, but then again, Steve Issacs can do amazing things with his tongue. Geeezus.
4. Favorite concerts: Camp Freddy with Slash directly over my head (I was center stage up front). Best fuckin' time ever.

Who I Love:
too many to list them here, let's say rock - AOR - prog/rock - prog/metal - fusion - jazz - country/rock and the list goes on. Listen to everything but:
Who I Hate
rap and his sons and stepsons, hip-hop , electronic dance music, some new wave, most of this modern rubbish.
Best 4 concerts so far:
Page/Plant , pure magic
Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop tour, 1st concert ever ... could never forget it
Toto's Kingdom of Desire tour. The air was filled with magic and sadness for Jeff's departure.
Deep Purple's Rapture of the Deep tour: went there thinking "the same ol' stuff" yet they surprised me with their power and tightness. Morse kicks ass...

Razorlight at the moment...they're firing on all cylinders. I'm a bit bored with all the old stuff and this band has reignited my faith, that music is still alive and kickin'
Deep Purple.....good in concert, might reconsider going to the Styx gig then as I'd decided against it due to DP being there!

Great topic, a real conversation starter
Well, besides Journey, I like other hard rock/AOR/heavy metal artists such as Deep Purple (my other alltime favourite band), Led Zeppelin, Rainbow, Sabbath, Dio, Edguy, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Dokken, Queen, Kansas, Rush and Foreigner.
I like "regular" rock too, Pink Floyd, U2, Beatles, Genesis, Dire Straits, Tom Petty, David Bowie, The Boss.
When it comes to pop, I think the modern kind mostly sucks (Spears, Aguilera, Beyonce), pardon my bluntness. I really like 80s pop though: Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Phil Collins, Alison Moyet, Animotion, among others.
I like motion picture scores as well, particularly those by Hans Zimmer and John Williams.
I am also a major fan of Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.
HATE is such a strong word, but I dislike most modern music because it is mostly very surface driven (exceptions are John Mayer, Norah Jones, Coldplay). Hip hop and rap however, is a horrible genre I think (with the exeption being Missy Eliott, The Fugees and Lauryn Hill) mostly because of its core values of mindless bravado and misogyny.
Recommendations: Well, a perfect opportunity to plug some of my fellow Danes

If you like genious rock music, dig up albums by Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, Tim Christensen, Kashmir, Gasolin (they sung both in English and Danish) and DAD (Disneyland after Dark).

http://www.dad.dk/
Best concert: Deep Purple on their Rapture tour (to quote Wayne and Garth: "we're not worthy, we're not worthy, we're scum we suck"

)

LOL! Watching Weird Al. He really is good. I don’t even know the video he’s parodying, but it’s still funny stuff. His Nirvana was the best, though.
I’m liking Razorlight so far (esp. before I fall to pieces)(checking out their site right now).
Lacuna Coil’s a little goth for me, but christina scabbia (sp?) has an amazing voice. Love Senzafine and Our Truth (do you have the “live radio WAAF acoustic” songs?)
Playitloudforme wrote:4. Favorite concerts: Camp Freddy with Slash directly over my head (I was center stage up front). Best fuckin' time ever.
Lovin’ the stories, lol. Thanks
Don’t any of you rap haters like the Beasties? Sabotage is
such a great song!
And hip hop was great before the gangstas took over, lol. (Fugees, Lauren Hill were great examples. Do you remember Arrested Development’s “Tennessee?”)

1 - Kansas comes pretty close to Journey in my book. I've actually seen them in concert more times than anyone else. They're phenomenal musicians. After them are Savatage (my avatar is one of their album covers and my screen name comes from their song "Conversation Piece"). I also love Boston, Foreigner, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Petra, Queen, Queensryche, and many others that aren't coming to mind right now.
2 - Popular bands I don't like? I like some songs from these artists but, in general, I can't stand their music: The Rolling Stones and KISS are the two that immediately come to mind.
3 - Favorite concerts? My favorite is probably a tie...Boston in the summer of 2004 and the Journey show when Foreigner opened for them a few years ago.

Have you ever taken a look at the alt.music.vanhalen newsgroup? It's nothing more than a pissing match between DLR-only and Sammy-only fans.

What I got in my car CD player...
Steve Perry's Greatest Hits + 5
FTLOSM
Trial By Fire
Houston 1981 CD
The Outfield's Extra Innings
Play Deep The Outfield
Seal's Greatest Hits
Vs. Pearl Jam
Abigal King Diamond
Tears for Fears Greatest Hits
Chris Botti
Neal Schon's Eye on You
Selection of Sam Cooke from iTunes
Selection of Terrence Trent D'arby from iTunes
Angel of Retribution Judas Priest
Selection of awesome vocalists from iTunes (Michael Crawford, Josh Groban, Kenny Rogers, Sammy Davis Jr, Oleta Adams, etc)
Pretty broad spectrum. It sucks when I make a left turn and all my mispacked CDs go flying into the passenger seat.
(Mostly I've been listening to XM Radio, so not a whole lot of music lately)

Who I hate: Guns & Roses
They have like what? 2 albums, but Sirius radio hard rock stations play them every other second. I also hate Aerosmith's newer stuff (but love all the pre-Permanent Vacation material to death)
Add Thin Lizzy & Rainbow to my fav's list.

How big a fan are you of King Diamond? I've tried listening to some of his stuff and I just can't stomach his vocals, not to mention his over-top-occult imagery (which is even more so with Mercyful Fate).

Well, Steely Dan's Babylon Sisters , with that Purdie's Shuffle, took me seated in front of my drums forever. Great memory and fatigue learning that part.
Kate Bush has such a distinctive and soaring vocals. One of a kind really.
Van Halen, with Diamond Dave, is part of my youth. They'll live forever with me and my party-mode.

Yeah, I like one-of-a-kinds. Perry. KB. Donald Fagen. Distinctive voices and talents.
