OK I have the old one and will definitely get the new one. I have to order it cos music store didn't order any. Guess they figured no in this one horse town would buy them, but I will.

I will have to listen closely also. Granny

They were remastered.
I hope to listen to them or get them someday hopefully sooner than later...
I think what Nora is hearing is the result of a digital tweaking to get the sound up to about what Steve was trying to capture.

Hey Shadow...
I understand what you're saying...but what I was talking about is different voice inflections, breathing, and improv on certain vocal lines...like in
"Listen to Your Heart":
How he draws out the word
"listen" in the phrase
"listen, baby" after the first chorus is completely different from the '94 release....also, like I said: IMO his voice sounds "tighter" - the sound of his "vibrato" when he sustains words is faster and sounds more supported.

I hate it when supposedly "remastered" albums actually have parts that were re-recorded. That being said, I'm interested to hear how it sounds.

Guess, I will have to "Listen" to this!
Anyway
It's Ok
We have the originals
I think it's nice he added something to bring them up to where he thinks they should be in his heart!

If could be part of the remastering, or Different takes from the same songs sliced in. Very easy to do in PRO TOOLS. It very well could be a new vocal, but i would think it would be a waste of time. i thought the album was perfect. I do a ton of editing in PT and you can take the same vocal track and make it sound very very different.
Who knows! Just a thought.

Wow, Steve overdid himself didn't he? A new verse! Fuck, I hope he didn't break his OTHER hip in that go for it all attitude of re-recording a single verse! Steve, you are God!
You are all making me hate this bastard, and that is not a good thing.

Hey there is nothing wrong with Perry spicing up those great old songs, and he also gave us some "new ones" to hear too. I can't wait to get mine!!

The bottom line is that everyone that bitched and moaned about the production on FTLOSM needs to hear the new re-issue. Not only does it have a couple cool extra tunes, but the overall sound of the album has vastly improved (and I loved the original version).
Plus the two previously unreleased tracks (from the "Against the Wall" sessions) are not typical Perry sounding songs. Both are different styles than we are accustomed to hearing him sing.

I never heard the original disc, although I did download the remaster from a torrent site, since a) I'm poor and b) wasn't sure a Steve Perry solo album was worth spending money on in the first place. Unfortunatley I didn't find the album to be particularly impressive...mediocre songwriting and really suffering from a lack of Neal Schon or an equally rocking and distinctive instrumentalist, and wayyyy too many ballads.
However...does anyone else think this kind of revisionism is a bad thing? (assuming he did, in fact re-record or alter the recordings aside from simply remastering) I mean, what if Brad Delp went back and re-recorded some vocals for the reissue of the first Boston album? People would be having a shit fit. I just think it's a scary idea, artists going back and altering their recordings...FTLOSM isn't exactly a cherished, classic album by anyone other than Perry diehards, but man, if he did that to any of the Journey albums I'd be kind of annoyed.

Kind of different how he goes from the hauntingly beautiful "One more time" into the nitty gritty sexy "Can't Stop". Two totally different sides of Perry.

I don't believe that he actually re-recorded anything for this release, just that possibly in a few places, alternate vocal takes are used on this version that for whatever reason weren't used on the original.
In all honesty, besides the extra measure in "Young Hearts Forever", I'm not noticing different vocal tracks, just a different and less muddled overall sound to the album.

I've always loved "One More Time" and definitely think that it belonged on the original FTLOSM album.
Also for the people complaing that the album was too ballad heavy, the addition of "If You Need Me, Call Me", "Don't Stop" and "Friends of Mine" on this re-release, take care of that "problem".

Nora, ur agreeing w/me now. I said it sounded recent when I heard it last nite. Wow. See I trust u Nora as u have a very well trained ear. Guys if u don't know this, Nora has a lot of classical training. If u hear her sing, u can tell by the way she hits notes & manipulates them. Sure she has a whole lotta natural talent too but the training comes out too. B/c of that she can hear things most of us won't hear. Trust her. She knows what she's talking about.

There are so many comments I could insert here...but why don't you play us a few of your tunes/vocals and let us decide how qualified you are

.....Nora is an artist and its getting to be a bore how you come to every single one of her posts and lay your negativity down.....not cool.
