I can't believe some of you guys....

I'm never the type to single anybody out so I'm not naming names....but it amazes me how some fans become quite bold to call Jeff (to his face in so many words) just another copycat. What is up with that? Jeff sings like Jeff. Soto doesn't sound like Perry. He doesn't try to sound like Perry. I think that is one reason why I am diggin' this new lineup for Journey....it's different, yet it still fits Journey (my opinion though.) I think it's been long enough of a break between Perry and Journey, that this would work just fine for the band.

But my point is....why try to put the guy down on a forum board? He's cool enough to come here and interact with us fans --- most of us WILL NEVER have the chance that Jeff has been given. Yet, the guy is keepin' it real and trying to be just another poster here. Jeff, dude, you are in my cool book man! I'd say the same for any of the other band members (past and present) who'd come here and interact with us!

By the way Jeff...quick question: If Neal told you that Journey would perform anything from your solo stuff or Talisman stuff (or maybe Takara,) which song would you pick to perform?

Greggie.

I wish they would do some of Jeff's material and some SS to boot. That would probably shut people like me up. I want to hear what he will bring to the band on his own merit, not what someone else has paved the way for.

And yet, not ten minutes before posting that, in another thread you said:

"No suprise. I've heard him sing, but it's still just covering other singers songs. SS was a joke, imo. A lot of noise."

Just a tad contradictory, dontcha think?

Not really. It doesn't have to be anything that I like. Lot's of folks claim that they liked SS. Claimed it was terrific. Le's give it a test.

Soul Sirkus was/IS terrific! Talisman is amazing also, & Jeff's last solo album "Lost in the Translation" is INCREDIBLE!

JMHO of course.

Well, since you're not 'naming names', I don't know if you are talking about me or not. I'm not trying to say he is a "Perry clone", as Hugo. All I am saying is he DOES sing those songs as they would be from 1984. He does LESS to differentiate himself from Perry then Augeri did. That is how I hear it, and my opinion.

He may sing like JSS, and Augeri sung like Augeri. The difference is that Augeri added his own adlibs, instead of using Perry's. Augeri may have 'lipped' to the 2001 DVD, but it didn't sound like it came from the Houston 81 DVD. THAT is what I am saying.

But my point is....why try to put the guy down on a forum board?

Oh, please, where were you when people were ripping Augeri a new hole? What is being said about JSS is VERY mild compared to that.

He's cool enough to come here and interact with us fans --- most of us WILL NEVER have the chance that Jeff has been given. Yet, the guy is keepin' it real and trying to be just another poster here. He may be 'just another poster' here but he's also on tour with Journey. Whether you, or he, likes it or not, he's going to be critiqued. That's just comes with the job. If he can't handle these words, then why does he even come here? Frankly, I don't see him having much of a problem with it...so, WHY DO YOU?

Monker,

You're making sense dude, I'm with you on your post to some degree. By the way, don't be fuckin with Hugo. Everyone can say what they want but he can sing, write and rock like a motherfucker. His shit is better than anything Journey has done since Frontiers and arguably Escape, period. Now back to the critiquing dude.

Great post, but I must admit in some parts of certain songs he does indeed sound a little like Perry...

...and I think that is a GOOD thing.

He has his own style and tone, yet stays true to the way these songs were meant to be performed.

Don't let a few on this forum get you down JSS -
you're doing a great job and the overwhelming majority of Journey fans approve and the fan & media reviews overwhelmingly support that claim.

Just rock man.

JSS has demonstrated that he is not thin-skinned by any means. I'm sure he is not going to get on the bus and cry because someone on the Internet said he pats himself on the back too much.

It's like what Perry said in Frontiers And Beyond about having too many yes-men around... it inflates the ego... might be good for him to read some criticism, and if it happens to be lewd I believe Jeff is a big boy and he is capable of ignoring posters he finds offensive.

I’m with you. Everyone who is critical of JSS has probably not seen him yet, or will never accept him anyway. I admit that I am not so excited by what I have heard so far, but those who have seen the live show have been impressed, and then some! I for one wish to see it for myself, but JSS has my total respect for even indulging the people on this board.

Give him a chance! If he can steer this stagnant band in a new and exciting direction, we all benefit!!!

JSS to me is one helleva front man, one of the best I've had the chance to see live (saw him in the 1st Soul SirkUS gig at the Crock Rock in Allentown, PA and he blew me away). Love his voice, he was great on Soul SirkUS, "Lost In Translation", "Prism (love the duet with Glenn Hughes)", Malmsteen, Rock Star. The man can flat out sing. I'm happy for him to finally have gotten a break to be with a well known band and not be known as the guy who sang some songs on the "Rock Star" soundtrack in America. The man is one of the hardest working vocalists in the land. I'm excited for when he brings Journey back to northeast, PA or within reasonable driving distance so I can hear a real vocal performance and not some pre-recorded performance or a plain crap performance like Augeri put on at the Scranton show this year.

Good job Greggie. :D

I've only heard bits and pieces of JSS's previous work, but from what I've heard he seems to be able to do a pretty broad range of things. Look at the range of material that Journey has recorded over the years. From Good Morning Girl to One More and everything in between. I think Jeff is talented and adaptable enough to give us a Journey sound without cloning Perry.

I don't like to see him attacked on here either. I think he can handle it though and I hope he doesn't let it keep him away.

If anyone is looking to hear a CLASSIC JSS solo album, you should also pick up Prism. IMO, it is one of the best Melodic Rock records ever made. There are nothing but GREAT songs on there.
JSS last CD Lost in the Translation is also a JSS classic!!
I have known for many years what the rest of the world has known, and that is JSS is the hardest working man in Rock and the world's best kept secret at the same time.
He is a total pro, and a class act!!
I would love to hear Journey remake "If This Is The End"!!
I think that could be another classic Journey ballad!!

Or we demand the classic JRNY lineup of

Steve Smith
Greg Rollie
Ross Valory
Jon Cain
Neal Schon
Steve Perry.

That is what we should get behind.
And that would blow away the music buisness
No more copying its the real deal.

I agree with ya MSR.
I didn't feel the same way when Augeri stepped on ship
and I missed out on good music when it came out and
went on tour.
I am way less critical this time around and am enjoying
most of what I've heard so far, still sulking a bit that I didn't
get to see em in Cali back in Aug but I'm moving along.
