Final Mix of You Better Wait - Larry & Jeremey

Postby Jeremey » Wed Oct 18, 2006 9:20 pm

For those of you following the last thread, Larry and I collaborated with a karaoke file on "You Better Wait," with a version posted here that had a rough vocal track. It has since been mixed with Larry's guitar and remastered a bit to fix the EQ on the vocal, so for anyone who's interested, here's the "final" mix!

I just violated all kinds of company policy regarding computer use here at work so that I could listen to this. Nice job, guys!

Jeremey: your sound is fine but I'm not hearing a consistent confidence throughout the track.

Larry: don't be afraid to turn things up a bit!

Thanks, man. I am not sure how the performance lacks confidence, but I respect your opinion. As far as Larry's guitar goes, he didn't do this mix, so I guess I'm responsible for the guitar mix. I was going for a mix closest to the actual recording, but due to compression in the 2 track file, certain parts of guitar and/or vocals are brought up more or squashed down in the mix depending on the dynamics of the specific passage. I think that's just inherent with mixing a guitar track over top of an entire band stereo track. Hopefully the guitar doesn't sound too buried to anyone's ears, it did sound okay to mine and Larry's.

The guitar is buried but that's understandable given your explanation.

The confidence thing is based on your relaxation. You sound tense - like you're trying too hard to hit things "just right" which comes across as a lack of confidence. You come in a little late and cut short a couple times. I don't want to come across as nit-picking or critical - just telling you what I'm hearing.

One of the things that SP has said about his singing is that he used the least amount of effort. This is why his vocals always come across as relaxed and smooth.

I'm just saying what I hear.

Spanish...? Hmmmm... It actually would be intriguing to hear "In the darkness comes the evil..." in Spanish. BTW: why no vocal distortion on that line? I can do it without any technological help as I have the power to summon up demonic voices (Satan lives within me just ask Conversationpc).

Please don't take my remarks too hard. I'm just a real PIA. I'm no fun at movies, theatre, etc. as I always seem to have something critical to say BUT I keep it CONSTRUCTIVE.

Try it again more relaxed with a little Spanish thrown in :D

Give me a break. I've never said anything remotely like that or even thought it, for that matter.

Cool, wish I could get in one. Wifey would not like it, although she would probably be at every bar with all of her friends.
