I couldn't help noticing in the No One Does It Better thread that when someone mentions something that bugs someone else, instead of ignoring it, people come out of the woodwork to crucify, insult, degrade, or simply disagree with the person who started the thread or those who post in the thread who are in agreement with the original poster. I used to do that myself to a degree, but it gets old quickly.
So, what does that say about us? It obviously says that regardless of what people state, NO ONE LIKES TO PASS UP A GOOD ARGUMENT. In fact, I'd say that some here feel they are at their best when vociferously going head to head with someone who is on the opposite end of the spectrum as they are.
Let's say everyone here agreed on nearly everything here...then we would have a board that would eventually evaporate into nothing. I've seen it over and over and over with numerous other boards that aren't Journey related. After awhile, there's nothing that needs to be stated, so no one says anything.
Here's the point: in spite of the fact that some here pull out the same old worn out statements, like "This board is for Journey" or "This is a dead horse" or "Let it die" or whatever as their statement against the thread itself, or by the same token, types comments like "Perry is the best!" or "No one does it better" or whatever, chances are really good that without the OPPORTUNITY of being able to state those remarks, let's face it, EVERYONE here would be BORED.
Seems to me that an argument is what folks enjoy because it gives them the opportunity to try their hand at outdoing the other person in a battle of wits. That's all this is about. Nothing else. It's not about Journey, or JSS or Steve Perry. It's about the arguments that occur here and who can claim victory.
This is why when there was a Perry board, people went over there to lambaste Perry and the Perry people, and the same thing occurs here. It's the love of the fight that keeps many people in the game. The threads that aren't that antagonistic usually sink to the bottom pretty quickly. Personally, I've always enjoyed intelligent discourse and that applies here as well. I enjoy a good debate. It would actually be interesting (and probably wouldn't happen) to see a debatable thread occur without the character assasinations, the lambasting, the insults and all the rest. Who knows, but some people might actually have to use their brains to establish themselves as someone who actually thinks before responding, as opposed to simply vomiting their sentiments all over the board. I doubt some are capable though.

Dude, you sound like a fuckin pastor.
You make a good point, and yep, I am here because I am very good at debating, err, lambasting certain dicksnots.
I am going to let the cat of the bag for all to see.
I only argue if I think I'm right.

This is the internet, not reality. Nothing here should be taken too seriously.

A debate/arguement is a very fine line and the outcome is the same you both want to win the reason a lot of the debates go straight to the bottom of this board is because they are BORING. People have to play by the rules with there kids, at work, all day long . This is the place where they can come and just let go whether its making fun of others debating, baiting, hacking, crying, cursing, ass kissing its all their way of relaxing. Fred its good to see that your just one of the crowd . Despite you wanting the intellegent conversation your last paragraph uses BAITING to try to get someone to respond.Your just one of us after all. Im sure you can find a couple of people in here to debate with, Monker loves to debate and he will always take the opposing side TNC likes to debate and has an affection for 10 dollar words the rest of us ,well you already know about the rest of us. like me for instance here i am playing with the family cat

This has nothing to do with the title, just wanted to say how FUNNY some things here are, my husband has picked up some new vocabulary here, the other day it was "f*cktard", & now here I see "dicksnot".....funny shit!! Can't wait till he's done napping to share that one with him, lol.
Thanks for the laughs...

I sorta get where you are coming from Fred. Journey/Perry/JSS/Augeri are passionate subjects here, not a bad thing......alot of strong views. And yes, I've been easily baited myself, so have many. I think debate is a good thing as long as it doesn't resort to 6-year-old nasty name calling. For example the TBF thread....SF-Dano and Matt have quite a dialog going. Both have opossing views and opinions but bring them forward without resorting to name calling back and forth.......quite interesting actually.
Mind you the nasty threads are like freak accidents, people can't help stopping and gawking.

You can tell the ones that do it for attention.

Contradicting myself here, but even though TNC's posts are sometimes nasty, ok most times

....I find some of his one liners funny as hell, I get the impression it is more shooting from the hip, than trying to gain attention.
Just my opinion.

Brilliantly stated. I love a good debate, but not all the nastiness the usually ensues. It's no longer a debate if you have to resort to debasement of the subject or the poster in lieu of an intelligent response.

You should have thought of that before "exposing" yourself, allowing for the world to get a glimpse of the real you. As in your reputation precedes you.
Now I'll sit back and wait while one of your henchmen comes over to issue a retort for you.

I have NEVER heard that expression! That is funny. Thanks!

Speaking of farts, I hate it when people walk past you in a crowded store, let one fly that stinks to high heaven and you're left smelling their wind, gagging as you try to find the exit. Pigs.

I've been trying to remember where I heard that (I knew it was in some movie) Then I remembered that it was the warden using that expression when Tim Robbins character escapes in "The Shawshank Redemption"

That is THE best movie ever made (in my opinion)! Don't remember that line, but I love that movie. What a story.
