Awesome! You guys were right...

You hear Perry all over that. Actually it would be the other way around...you hear Sam all over Perry's stuff.

Still though...it's awesome. Thanks!! :D

"L.A. motel... one sad mistake took Sam away..."

Always loved Sam Cooke. I think Perry took it a step or two farther than Cooke though.
Thanks for the song! Now I have to go play a whole album. :D

Here's a great link to the events surrounding Sam's death. I would love to hear your opinions as to what YOU think really happened. Personally, I think he "acquired the services" of Boyle, who, when she saw the amount of cash he had, set him up to be killed. The "several thousand" dollars he was seen with would be like $100,000 today. MORE than enough reason for some gutter-dwelling individuals to kill for. Anyway, here's the link:

Very interesting reading...after some thought I believe that she was a prostitute and rolled him...He, being drunk and breaking into Franklin's apartment scared her and she shot him...very sad...needless death of a great singer..his voice like Perry's is unique and cannot be replaced...so, therefore I agree with you..Carol

I agree, but I believe that Boyle WAS in the manager's apartment (to lure in Sam and give justifiable cause for the shooting). I think it was an elaborate setup. Why would the manager be talking to the owner at 2 o'clock in the morning? I don't think that was a coincidence, rather a pretty well planned setup. Just my opinion.

Could be, but when did they arrange that? Did Boyle go out to the phone booth after the shooting?

Early in the story it says that Sam went right up to Boyle when she arrived at the restaurant he was at. I think he had plans to meet her there and that SHE told Sam of a motel she knew about. Why would HE know about that seedy motel? Hell, the dude drove a Ferrari and had a massive bankroll. That place was known for prostitution, leading me to believe that she knew the manager and perhaps the owner. It kind of all makes sense. I think he was set up.

But when and why was he set up...the bankroll wasn't shown until the restaurant so Boyle didn't know about the money until then...I don't know if was preplanned before that evening, but certainly could have been planned at the restaurant.

Could it be that he had a reputation for carrying around large amounts of money? The marginal members of society specifically look for stuff like that.

Well, I suppose so, either way Boyle was involved in his death and so was Franklin, of course, she fired the gun...
