Sam Cooke and Steve Perry and "Lovin', Touchin', Squeez

Postby fred_journeyman » Fri Oct 27, 2006 3:31 pm

The song that is the precursor to "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" is "Nothing Can Change This Love" by Sam Cooke. There's even one part where Sam sings "Ooooo make me weep and make me cry" in the exact same way (with virtually the same words) that Perry sings it in LTS.

Listening to Sam Cooke, it's obvious to anyone that not only did Perry have the utmost respect for him, but he emulated him in just about every way vocally.

Makes me laugh now to hear/read Herbie complain that Kansas stole from Journey! :D It's probably safe to say that everyone "borrows" from everyone else.

It's funny because for as many times as I'd heard BOTH songs I had NEVER made that connection until the topic of Sam Cooke came up on BT and JSS replied to me and pointed that out.

Yes - everyone borrows from everyone. There's a biblical saying from Ecclessiastes: "There is nothing new under the sun." Someone once argued with me that computers are NEW - stupid! Well, a computer is really nothing more than artificial intelligence. It emulates what God created FIRST - a brain. Nothing new about a computer - it borrowed it's design from something created by God.

I LOVE posting things like this on a board filled with potty jokes and daydreams of lesbian sex.

The Garden of Eden can't be found on a map. It's not a geographical location. It's right where you are - if you're in the spirit.

If it hadn't been for Perry, I would likely not be interested in Sam Cooke. The dude could SING!

I loved Sam before i knew about Steve. The man had away with his voice that just drew you to him.And Steve is the sameway with his voice but Steve just cuts into your soul like no other can.
