Im amazed at the amount of Bullshit posted in this Forum. One would think that Journey being around since the 70's the Majority of fans would be adults. Well after reading over quite a few threads i now see i was wrong.

Andrew my hat goes off to you for having to read through all of this shit every day....and keep it somewhat organzied for the fans.

arguing about this singer is better, that singer is better...this era is better.....this member is journey...that member is journey.......

to me...... the music is journey.....

I see what you're getting at and some of it IS bullshit...but (as a Def Leppard fan) what if Joe were to leave and Def Leppard continued? There would be the same crap on the DL board. Hell...if a board was around when Steve Clark died and Viv replaced him...there would be the same bickering. (I know I would've been there...I LOVED SMC's riffs/playing. Although, not a lead singer...his contributions were felt) But you've got to realize that it's going to be the same with ANY band that loses a lead singer. ESPECIALLY a band with a distinctive voice such as Perry's. Take a look at Styx, for God's sake. DeYoung's gone and the band sounds (to me) like a shadow of it's former self.

Let me chime in here................ When DL took the stage when I saw them...... (and let me say this, Journey did blow them offstage!)...... Joe sounded like sandpaper, and couldn't hold the notes, when they needed to be sustained. And I didn't see one smile out of any of the guys. It looked to me that they were going thru the motions. There wasn't any of that playful stuff between the guys like they had done in past shows. So, to me, the DL part of the co-headling tour wasn't all that great.

Just because you think DL comes on second means that they are the headliners, that is a crock of shit. Look at the reviews. Journey is getting more good press than I have seen for DL.

If Journey wasn't on its third lead singer, there wouldn't be that much to post about. With each of their three lead singers having a group of loyal followers, it brings up a lot of controversy and disagreement.

I saw Journey and Def Leppard the other night in Moline, and it was obvious why Def Leppard was headlining. They kicked ass! Journey was mediocre at best with JSS on vocals. I am not dissing JSS or any of Journey's members, but the magic of Journey that fueled the sales of over 50 million albums is just not there without Steve Perry. It would be the same if Joe Elliott left Def Leppard, or Mick Jagger left the Rolling Stones, or Steven Tyler left Aerosmith.

See what I mean about the controversy? Someone will trash my post about Journey being lost without Perry, then a dedicated Augeri fan will chime in about how Journey is lost without Augeri, then a JSS fan will state that Journey is better off with JSS than either of the Steves. This is why there are more posts on this forum than the other forums.

I have to agree w/ you Voyager, I saw the show in Grand Rapids. Although Jeff did improve alot since the Indy show in July. The only time the vocals sounded like Journey were when Dean would come in on the choruses. One of the main reasons Lep was better was they played 20th Century Boy and were at least supporting their new cd. (The same when they toured for X, I think they played 5 or 6 songs from it that year. Great show.) Journey's most current song was I'll be alright without You (20 years old) unbelievable. It was my nephew's first time seeing either band and he really liked the show, he said Lep was better though, I agreed.

As much as I hate to say it, but if you think of these comments being a realist, instead of a "fan", these are nail on the head accurate. Arrival was a great cd (aside from a couple of clunkers) But without Perry the most people won't care that Journey even exists.

I am having a hard time believing Andrew allows this kind of crude talk on his forum. If this is what it takes to prove that your favorite band is better than the next one, I'd have to wonder why. A band's music and performance should be able to stand for itself without having to wish AIDS on anyone who disagrees with your opinion. I've stayed away from this forum lately because of these kind of assaults being allowed by one member but not by others, but this is starting to cross the line. While I agree that some forums are too quick to boot members due to their intolerance, I have no interest in being part of a forum that tolerates these kind of profane, inhumane attacks on its members.

Sorry to rain on your parade dude, but I went to Moline the other night for the main reason of seeing JSS with Journey. I wasn't expecting anything from Def Leppard at all - I was actually planning to leave after Journey played. I was disappointed that Journey's show was somewhat mediocre that night, so I decided to stay and see Def Leppard. To my surprise, they put on a kick-ass rock show that I will remember as one of the best I've ever seen - and I have seen hundreds of good rock shows.

You can say whatever you want about Def Leppard, but they didn't need any "fake shit" to prove themselves as one of the best acts on the road today. As a hardcore Journey fan, I am disappointed to inform you that they kicked Journey's ass at this show. It may have been a different story when you saw them - because every band has their "on" and "off" nights. But you could poll anyone who saw the show that I saw in Moline, Illinois, and they would tell you - Def Leppard kicked major ass that night, and Journey paled in comparison.

Maybe the newness of JSS has worn off now, and Journey is facing the hard reality that it lost its soul when Steve Perry left. All of the members of Journey are superb performers and musicians - including JSS. But the chemistry that fueled the sales of over 75-million albums left when Perry was replaced. Augeri and JSS never sold any albums to speak of before or after they joined Journey. It's the legacy of the Perry/Journey years that continues to fuel the sales of Journey concert tickets. People like myself want to go back and re-live that high one more time, but it's just not there anymore like it was in the Perry years. My wife says the same thing. She was not impressed by the Augeri-Journey or the JSS-Journey.

P.S. - If you'll notice, I didn't need to stoop to character assaults and profanity to prove my point. I don't need to - the music did the talking itself without my help. I know what I saw and heard, and no amount of cussing, name calling, and temper tantrums will convince me differently.

I think there is definitely a lot of people who are Journey fans who think much of this statement has a whole lot of validity to it. Because Perry doesn't feel like singing any longer, I will continue to listen to Journey with Jeff at the helm. That said. I definitely do agree with you 100% that Journey will NEVER EVER EVER be what they were with Perry, and anyone who thinks otherwise simply isn't being honest with themselves! Honestly, I think every member of Journey probably knows this as well, as the evidence since 1998 is quite clear! Jeff seems to have a great relationship with all the guys in Journey, so I'm not sure that "chemistry" is really the issue here.

I think what it really comes down to is that most fans don't want the lead singer of their favorite band replaced, by ANYONE! Let's face it folks, there aren't a whole lot of bands who change their lead singer and succeed. Van Halen and Genesis are the only two I can think of who ever pulled it off. I think it's also important to point out that Genesis and Van Halen were actually both more successful, on a commercial level with their "replacement" singers than they were with their originals.
