I was thinking and wondering what you all
will pass down musically to your children, family
or friends.

For years I have listened to Journey, Steve Perry,
Great Big Sea, Three Dog Night and of coarse
many others.
My Father was a nut for music(mostly old country)
and though I just couldn't stand Willie Nelson
and Patsy Cline, Daddy made damn sure
they were burned into my brain and now I listen
to em and love em right along with my faves.......

Okay here's what I'm hoping for folks.
Tell us what you were raised on and what you'll
try and pass on to others.
Is this stupidly?, maybe...am I bored, yup highly.


Oh hell let's make this a bit more fun and see just
how much we have in common when it comes to
musical up-brining.
I'm gonna make a poll of past famous musicians
let's see who we all heard the most of in our youth.

My Dad was nuts about Sam Cooke. When he first heard Perry, long before it was known, he said that guy has been totally influenced by Sam. My Dad went nuts on Perry. He couldn't get enough of it. He even learned the songs on guitar & made me sing them. He said back then that Steve was the greatest vocalist we'd ever hear in our lifetime & he was going places. This was in 1980. My Dad also loved Johnny Cash.

Nothing...Neither my mom or dad listen to much music at all. I remember them listening to 8-tracks occasionally when they were popular but not much.

I will definitely pass down Journey. My daughter already loves them.

It's a good idea Moon Beam. My only problem is that I lived through all of them except Patsy and I just missed her. I guess she would have to be my choice. By the way, I love her voice.

These are all way too recent for me, Moon! My dad force fed me big bands, Sinatra and Bennett. My mom loved musicals and opera, so my influences are varied and eclectic, to say the least.

My Dad was an amazing singer & I could listen to him all day long. I only wish I taped his voice. If only I'd known he'd die when I was 15. He also made up some short stories that no one recorded. Sigh.

Well, I didn't vote because my Dad didn't pass down nothing musical to me. Concerning the others posting here, I don't know who voted !

I tend to forget my Mom whenever possible, but she also loved Sinatra & Bennett, along w/Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Johnny Matthis & Shirley Bassey. It took me a long long time to even stomach any of those people, even if someone did them at karaoke.

My Meme was born in the 20's
and was a big fan of the swing era and I was
raised listening to that as well but only with
her singing the tunes never heard them on
record or radio till I was a teen.Thanks for

Same here, its funny that my parents didn't really listen to music, but its a very big part of my life now.

My kids also love Journey, and are learning about Mom's new fav, Jeff

Me too Spike. The only music I've never been able to find something to like in is rap.

My parents used to listen to alot of 50/60s - Sam Cooke, Temptations, etc..... that era - music. My dad likes all kinds of music now country, pop, rock....even likes ACDC's Thunderstruck. My mom used to like Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdink. LMAO, now that I see that in print......who in there right mind would go by that name. Now she likes Il Divo....or what ever they are called.

Mindy, my daughter likes Journey too, and is also learning about Jeff.......she thought it was cool when I told her the guy singing Stand Up and Shout in the movie Rockstar is now singing for Journey.

My dad was a huge Roy Orbison fan.

I chose the Beach Boys, but my father also loved Buddy Holley, Conway Twitty, main stream 50's hits.

I think his all time favorite song, though, was "Oh It's So Nice To Be With You", a 70's song.

Sadly, he lost the battle to Lung Cancer in 93, and I lost my mother to Lymphoma July of this year.

Thanks, guys... I don't want to bring the thread down, though - let's keep it upbeat!!!

I was force fed The Beach Boys, which is why I despise them to this day. Sure there was what was called PURE Genius in Brian Wilson, but I got tired of hearing it all the time.

Gimme Willie Nelson any way.

I am just learning to appreciate Willie. I never liked his voice as a youngster, but it has grown on me. Like it or not, the man can sing in tune and knows how to make music.
