What if Journey only toured the UK in 2007?

I'm all for a break from the road in the US if it means writing and getting into the studio to put together a killer record with JSS. My question is what effect would a year off from the road have when they decide to tour again, presumably in 2008? Since I have been seriously following Journey, they have toured every year. What would a US tour be like following a year with no US dates? How would they make it so fans don't forget about them during the time off? This tour with Def Leppard seems to be building so much momentum for the band that I wonder if a year with no Journey on the road would be bad for the band.

It's my understanding that this is what will be happening. A European tour only, with recording sessions taking place after for a new CD.
I have been wrong before, but I trust the source of this info.

Problem is, this has been said in the past.

What happens if another opportunity comes...touring with VH, or Sammy, or somebody else? Are they going to pass on those big touring dollars for the miniscule profit of a CD? I don't think so.

Well...the current money pool list JSS as the 1 to 99 favorite (that's $1 for every $99 you bet for those who aren't gambling type people). With Steve Augeri coming in at 10 to 1 and Steve Perry at 99 to 1. Robert Fleichman hasn't had any wagers in his name yet. ;)

The betting says it will be JSS.

I would state the pros and cons of each then I would leave it up to the band to decide...take the tour money, or express your creativity with new music. Then I would spend my time looking for NEW talent to sign, instead of bands in their final years of existence.

If I were THE BAND. I would write the new songs, rehearse and perfect them. I would then take them on the road and perform five new songs every night...record them every night...and release the new songs on CD after the tour. Best of both worlds that way.

Interesting. So, what are the pro's & cons? And, why, if they're in the final years of existence, would you recommend losing touring income? Especially when people like you have doubted that they'll ever be able to get away from the GH's on tour?

As I see it, Journey has a choice, and I've said this many times here:

Make a lot of money touring.

Make a lot less money by not touring and taking time out to record an album and releasing it to their fans.

That is their choice, and it's really not much more complicated then that.

If I was manager...I wouldn't recommend one over the other. It's THEIR life and career. Journey is able to cotinue for a while whichever way they choose. So, what are THEIR goals, what will make THEM happy? Money or recording? Do YOU know? I don't....but it DOES seem they have always taken to the road.

But, if I were Neal and Sammy approached me to take Journey on tour with him. If Journey was in the studio...I'd drop it and go on tour and record things live, HSAS style. Why not? If they have some big plan to record with Kelly Clarkson or something, fine, record the one song in the studio and do everything else live...or have her guest on a couple dates and record her live too What's it going to hurt?

It would be smart to lay a few bucks down on Perry, just in case. You could make a killing if that miracle happens.
