Someone over at BT asked about a Journey Wine Bottle for sale in a Charity Event (it is posted on the main page), specifically who signed it as the promo says signed by all band members?
CJ's answer: Signatures are as follows: JC/NS/RV/DC/JSS
Call me Captain Obvious but this is a "Generations" related promo. I see no reason that SA could not have signed it IF he was still a member of the band....
I must say that this band is pretty cagey as to how they communicate with their fans....nothing direct about it.

You're not suggesting that Augeri might not return, are you?

Stevie Awesome will be back. He's GOTTA. I'll commit suicide if he doesn't.

I think it is pretty obvious that SA is not coming back..... IF he were still a member of the band, he would have signed the promotional wine bottles.....

It makes no sense to me to ship all those wine bottles to have him sign them OR have him fly to California to sign them. I think JSS is just covering all the duties.

Captain Obvious! I love that. If people haven't figured out that Jeff is the lead singer of Journey.... I don't know...

Wow, now that is reaching....If they were really comitted to SA being lead singer they would have done what it took to get them signed

If you stood on Times Square and randomly polled 5,000 people.....I can bet you the MAJORITY wouldn't even have "figured out" that Steve Perry isn't the lead singer anymore.
The bottom line is Journey has now watered down the meaning of lead singer and anyone who pre-pays money for a ticket has to be willing to accept alternate singers on the front of that stage.

It's not reaching, it's logical.
What is wrong with Journey doing a nice charity promotion with JSS right now?
Answer ~ nothing.
Why go to the extra trouble to have Augeri involved when you have a nice warm body right there to be a part of it.
To quote you, "If they were really committed to SA being lead singer", signing wine bottles would not be the difference between being committed or not being committed. Being committed to SA would have required something much BIGGER than that.

I am really really bored right now so I thought I would play devil's advocate here.
IF Journey got inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame this year, how do you see that scenario playing out? ALL past and present band members attended the Walk of Fame ceremony in LA. Should ALL the band members do the same if it were the HOF?
Can you see Steve Perry on stage with Steve Augeri and JSS? Should SA be excluded, even though he contributed 8 years of time, and is featured on 2 CDs and one EP with the band.
Should JSS be excluded from the honors? What has been his contribution to the band, other than this tour?? I know this is a stretch, since for some unexplained reasons, Journey has always been ignored by the HOF committee.
Like I said, I'm bored. Not trying to start any brawls here, just some consversations.

When a band is inducted they are invited. When Santana was inducted Schon was not there, but Rolie was. When Journey gets inducted my guess is it will be the line up from the 70s 80s era, the body of work that represents so much of their influence in music, just my opinion of course.

Out of respect for JSS, I should have used a different word than "alternate", but I didn't want to call him temporary, substitute, replacement or wifey #4 either. He deserves better than all of those, probably deserves better than to be "the 4th lead singer for the rock band made famous by Steve Perry in the 1980s" or however some media-rite may choose to put it. Pick any word you like that means "a lead singer other than the one you expected to hear" when you bought the ticket.

Very nice pic, Jgal! I am digging the alternate too.
With all due respect, the last few Journey tours were terribly limited because of the vocal issues. With JSS in the lead vocal position I see a renewed band and an exciting future for Journey fans. I'm thankful we have Jeff to carry us forward and leave an ugly past few years behind. Time to make some music!!

Yes and you are right I am bitter.
Bitter that JSS didn't have a better opportunity to show the world his talent. He should be up on the grammy stage by now accepting an award for best new vocal performance fronting for his own band. Singing his own work. NO matter how much some of you think this will happen for him as a part of Journey in the future, we will never see that.
Right now, he is exposing the world to his talent on the coattails of Journey success, singing Journey songs. Problem is the rest of the non-melodicrock world (aka the other 99.999999999999999999999999%) doesn't know "JEFF SCOTT SOTO", if they know him, they know him as Journey's current lead singer, # 3 or 4 or 5 or something like that.
I think he deserves to be his own star and is his own star. But instead, he is currently caught in this ugly stream of Journey B.S. that is still so prevalent that "people" (as Lula so compassionately referred to us) fight over who signed wine bottles for a children's charity.
I don't care what you call me, call me any ugly name you want, but I think JSS deserved better than to be a part of this whole disgusting vile Journey year.

When did Rolie show up at the Walk of Fame in Hollywood? I musta missed that, along with everyone else. I can see almost everyone showing up for the Rock & Roll HOF, IF it ever happens. But for the band jam, I think you only get a few songs, so how do you divide it up between the singers from just the 70's alone? Does Robert Fleischman sing the song he recorded before Perry joined? There's NO way Augeri shows his face. JSS I can see being there to jam with all the guys, because he's the NOW singer. Of course Smitty would be there too, can uyou imagine Smitty and Deen drumming together? hmmm. Oh, I also don't see the ROR touring Journey rythym section being there either.

Rolie wasn't in Hollywood.
Maybe they meant the San Francisco Walk of Fame? He might have been there.
Someday, I will meet Rolie, someday, I will meet Rolie, someday, I will meet Rolie.
I met Smitty in Hollywood. Now THAT was awesome!!!!!!!!

I think the stream of BS ended when S.A. was removed as lead vocalist. Jeff's position does not discount his talent, it is another way for him to shine. Yes, some people, as in human beings, have not yet realized the writing on the wall.

I asked Rolie a Journey question on rockline many years ago, when his first solo album came out and he was a bit arrogant sounding with his answer, like Journey never existed.

Rolie was not in Hollywood. I was talking about NYC, the RnR Hall of Fame and Santana's induction. If I'm not mistaken, Neal was not invited, but I could be wrong. Maybe Catherin will read this and respond. I think the committee will recognize the most popular/known line up- Schon, Valory, Perry, Smith, Rolie, Cain, and maybe Dunbar.

I was checking out his website not too long ago, and there was something written along the lines of, "Rolie left Journey when the songs were written for the singer"...don't remember his exact words. Guess there's some bitterness there

it wasn't in response to you Lula, you didn't say it, Mandi I think did. And as far as I know, Neal wasn't invited to RnRHOF, you're right.
MSR, I think you are right. Rolie doens't care for Perry, right?
