Best Journey / Perry Live Performance I've Seen

Caugt this on YouTube. DSB '81

Perry does some cool vocalizations but stays very true to the recorded version. The vocalizations show how great his voice was at that time. It'd be nice to hear him do more of this.

Neal and company were awesome as well.

Awesome! But one comment in there proves my point from another thread:

"have you heard the new guy yet. he sounds almost damn near =exactly like joe does. he and joe perry sing and sound vbery alike. he can't sing no more because oh his hip."

Joe Perry?

Yeah, they get his name mixed up with Joe Perry of Aerosmith. Comments on YouTube are often ignorant of the facts.

Great site though.

It is amazing how he can be even better than what you thought was the best. (huh?) This performance is one of those where he gets more of that "bell-like" quality in his voice...it seems like he is more wrapped into the song & coming through it, being one with the song, than being more out there to the audience. Does that make sense? I feel it, just can't describe it. :)
I love how he vocalizes before a song on stage...just feeling it...warming it...getting ready...there is the other youtube clip where he does that more. It is so freakin' sexy...it's...it's foreplay!

I like rainydaywoman's Sanford comment there...

Oh, here I found the other one:

Speaking of live recordings...how about the live version of Missing You on the reissue of FTLOSM?

Like silverblue said the live recordings seem to strip away the layers between the audience and the emotion of the song better than some of the studio versions ( I think that's what you meant. :) ). My 2 favorite Perry vocals are both live.

I could listen to that Missing You version all day & all nite. Perry is ALWAYS better live, unlike many singers.

It was like a revelation to me...almost like I'd never really heard his voice before. The studio version sounds like Perry-lite in comparison. :)
