I just got done listening to Faithfully off The Essential Journey album and something dawned on me. The entire song is PERFECT. Each instrument is perfectly audible, especially the drums and guitar. Man, do they sound great. Steve's voice and Neal's guitar are at perfect volumes and compliment each other PERFECTLY. The production quality of THAT song needs to replicated on Journey's next album. If JSS sounds like Augeri did (muddled and at times inaudible), the album will be doomed. For those who have Faithfully (duh, everyone!) give it a CLOSE listen and tell me what you think. It's production quality is second to none. Absolutely perfect. Replicate that production sound and Journey will again be on the radio.
PS The Loop in Chicago, our biggest rock station played Segar's new song today. Does it SUCK!!!!!!!!!! It's getting a LOT of rotation though.

I agree..If they record another album, It needs to be top a notch production..I know It costs a lot of money to produce, but?
IMO, "Still They Ride" is the finest vocal Perry ever put down on tape..It's perfect.

I've always felt that "Faithfully" is the quintessential ballad by any band, ever! It's a great song and has always had such a timeless feel to it. I also agree with you on the production quality is outstanding on the studio version of that song. There aren't many songs that I think Perry ever sounded bad on, but he definitely shines on this one! I would imagine that "Faithfully" is a song that you could NEVER go to a Journey concert and not hear. My hunch is that they've played it at every show, since 1983, when it was released. Listening to "Faithfully" also makes me realize how much I despise "Open Arms", as it's a MUCH better song, with some soul to it!

John, you said exactly what I meant....only better. Thank you.
PS I can't stand Open Arms either. I know why Neal had to be out of the studio while it was being recorded. His ears were probably bleeding.

Great choices. I have to say....I prefer Mother Father LIVE. I would put the Houston performance of that song up against anything out there. Stunning vocals, but also all the guys performances on that one are fabulous....piano, guitar, everything!
