The Next Album

From what folk on here have said, there's gonna be a new album with Jeff done in 2008. So I was wondering, what road would you like to see them go down for the next album?
I know it needs to keep the Journey sound to a certain extent, but with a new singer it also has to be different. In some ways that was the mistake they made with SA... not changing it enough. I would kind of like to see the new album have some Talisman-type influence on some tracks but keep the Journey sound on others, maybe be a bit heavier than some albums.
Anyone else have thoughts on that one?

Talisman should sound like Talisman and Journey has to have the Journey sound....or it wouldn't be Journey, would it? To me the problem with SA was not the song's but a lack of energy, enthusiasm, and deepth of feel brought out in the singing...which also affects the rest of the band. I'm not saying SA wasn't a good singer, it was just missing something. I think JSS has the energy, drive and soulfulness, in his singing and on stage, to bring to new material...but still have the Journey sound.

I think songs like "Believe in Me" are a good foreshadowing of what the new band will sound like.
I expect more riffs, more solos, more Deen, Jon picking up the guitar again, and more awesomeness all around.

This prolly sounds odd but I'd like to hear them do a tune with full orchestra background, Aerosmith did it and a few others, add some strings in there. So what if they have to add a few musicians for that tune....Jon plays beautifully, his work needs to be highlighted!!

Not odd.....they did it with When You Love A Woman.

I'm hoping for the classic Journey sound, with a touch of JSS "flair". The guy does have a knack for some kick-ass melodic songwriting

EXACTLY. "If This Is The End" could have easily been a Journey song. All that it lacks is the Journey finesse as far as the actual music goes. Beautiful song nonetheless.
Journey sound

Wow you hit it right on the head! When I saw journey with S.A. That is exactly what was wrong! No,energy no enthusiasm, and when he sang it was not from the heart and soul! You got it!

I hope that they follow more of the Lost in Translation form more than the Soul SirkUS. Aside from "Coming Home" I wasn't too keen on SS. I really do hope the guys have atleast one more really GREAT "album" in them and not just a few isolated tracks as has been the case (like alot of 80's era bands) for awhile now. I think they could have been 'great' with SA, but for what ever reason (age , complacency, lack of insperation, whatever) they never fired on all cylenders like they use to. What ever you think of JSS in JRNY, he does have a fire inside that SA might have lacked. Still pray that SA can carry on in some capacity on his own. I think it would a be nice touch of class on both parts to have the guy sing a backup on one song of new material or show up as a guest at one of the concerts AFTER the official announcement is made. I hope they don't burn that same bridge they did with SP. That would go along way to unite the fans.

Check out Talisman's The 1 I'm Living 4 - that's Journey potential.

I think for the Next album they should move further away from that jazz-fusion sound and more towards a vocal sound. Maybe Journey should even consider hiring a lead singer for the tour. Could be interesting anyway.

2008 is too far away for a new album. Mid 2007 would be about as long as they could keep me interested in the hopes of hearing any new material.

Oh, come on...They are supposed to make "waves" next year.
I spose they could all jump into a pool together and make "waves" and that prediction will come true.
But, it seems that my prediction that they will tour instead of record is coming true.
Funny how SS can record and release an album in a matter of weeks, but Journey takes over a year to even START the recording.

I can't say I disagree with you. I'm starting to think they're only going to continue riding the money train, doing the old material instead of doing something creative and putting out some new material. I hope that doesn't come true.

Hey, maybe that's the BIG hold-up!!!
Ross wants it "In Writing" that he gets to sing lead
on at least one track on ALL forthcoming albums
