Much has been discussed about the so-called gag order the band has with Perry. here's a reminder that it DOES actually exist. It's a pretty good read. I'll put the link at the botom if you'd like to read the whole article. I suspect many of you already have.


In 1996, Sony gave Journey -- Smith and Valory included -- a trunkful of cash to come back together for Trial by Fire, but the reunion was doomed when Perry came up lame after recording the album, developing an unspecified hip ailment while hiking in Hawaii.

"We made a decent record," explains Schon, who now lives in San Rafael. "But then nothing happened from there. And I sort of felt that that's what it was gonna be."

Meaning you never really expected a tour?

"Yeah."

Then, after a pause: "And I can't really get into why. I've got like ... you know, everybody signed papers years ago with [Perry]. Like, gag orders."

Gag orders meaning -- meaning that you can't talk about ...?

"About each other ... yeah," Schon says, laughing. "Silly shit, I know."

Moyes Lucas (FTLOSM drummer) mentioned in an interview that Steve told him, "I gotta go do this Journey record and then we'll pick up where we left off. Meaning, I guess, another solo album and tour.

Moyes said that Sony wasn't gonna release either "Listen To Your Heart" or "Young Hearts Forever", I can't remember which, as a single unless Steve agreed to do a Journey album.

I read that on Moyes' official site a few years ago, but they've changed his site and I can't find the interview now.

I wonder if that's what Neal was talking about but wasn't allowed to discuss.

Do you mean speak no ill of Moyes? Or are you saying that the gag order will remain indefinitely in place? Or that it's water under the bridge?

sounds to me like Andy is saying nothing bad wll be said about SA, by the rest of the guys... I'm most likely wrong though. (as usual)

I think he's saying that the same type of 'papers' will be signed with Augeri as they were with Perry...

But, what if Augeri doesn't want to do that...and WANTS to speak HIS side of the story after JSS takes over?

Just because Journey was dumb enough to do that with Perry doesn't mean Augeri automaticaly has to be.

I'm thinking you might be right, Monker and this could be one of the issues holding
up everything. I wouldn't be surprised if Augeri wants to tell anyone that will listen
'his' side of the controversy. He's gotta be pissed for first losing his job and
then being the blunt of just about every joke on every Journey forum.
But then who would we believe?
It'd turn into a bunch of "He said/She said" mumbo jumbo...
We are ll probably better off if there is a gag order.

I think its a good business decision.
But who wouldn't want to know the REAL dirt!

Things like:

Why was Ansley REALLY replaced?
What were Rolie's TRUE feelings about Perry and why did he REALLY leave?
Who the FUCK REALLY designed all the ROR outfits?
Hip Surgery or No Hip Surgery?
Live or Memorex?
All Neal's money going to Perry or he REALY doesn't
want to buy any more shirts; Purple is just fine???

I'd kind of like to hear his side of the story... but if there is any "gag order" it's probably for the best.

I'm sure if you got the guys drunk and asked them nicely they would tell you plenty though, Carlitto.

As much as it might be fun to hear the real dirt behind these things, both with Perry and Augeri, I really think the "gag order" type agreements are probably a good idea. I'm sure there are things that everybody involved would like to have known, but it could too easily degenerate into insults being slung around. Sort of like this board does at times.

"Those" other than Augeri?

It could be argued that the band haven't actually said anything against Augeri, it's the fans that have done that.

Yes, he probably won't be mentioned by the band at all again, once the announcement is made. But I wonder if Neal might imply something about SA's ability when gushing about JSS. He may have already done so in promotion of Soul Sirkus. Some have perceived derrogatory remarks about Perry since he departure.
