In the Fan Asylum Q & A, Steve Perry said:

"I have a 60 Gig ipod and it's PACKED with tons of music from old school R&B to Enya to Zep- The Beatles to- Radio Head- Snow Patrol- The Els- Jelly Fish- and my new fave - MEW- and many more digital love chunks of music."

Funny, because MEW is in fact a Danish band, I didn't know that they were so well known in the States. Do any of you know them? It is certainly not my cup of tea, but hey, different strokes :)

Their music can be sampled at

No, it's funny how artists can produce one kind of music and privately listen to something which is worlds away from their own sound. But I guess that's what makes the true artist, that they have eclectic tastes...

He does like a wide range of music, doesn't he? I bought Eels after he listed some songs as faves on his iTunes list & I really like it (the fave song makes me laugh)...I like when he shares his faves. Some of his choices I had already had before I read he liked them, such as "Keane", "Postal Service", "Snow Patrol"...I also have some Enya I downloaded before...pretty neat to see what we might have in common, but I think SP likes EVERYTHING! :)

Steve has said in interviews that there are things he like about all kinds of music from Heavy Metal to Bluegrass and everything in between. I guess that's why he participated in things as diverse as Jason Becker's Primal and Clannad's White Fool. He also said he has all kinds of music in his head. I just wish he'd get it out of his head and onto a CD, no matter what it is.

I was just glad that he mentioned JellyFish. THAT BAND should've been huge.

I listened to the snippet of "A Dark Design"...and IMO Steve likes it because he likes "inverted" chord changes...which are chords in a structure of music that are - and sound - "unexpected".

Just listen to the tape-loop instrumental on the home-page for a few seconds...it sounds "off-balance", doesn't it?
