Which of the "dirty dozen" can go?

Ok when Journey does record a new album and go out on the road with it, could some of the so called "dirty dozen be removed from the setlist? I'm not talking anything drastic, but maybe 1 or 2 could be left off without people noticing all that much.
And what are officially the "dirty dozen" in your opinion? It's not really they're 12 highest charting singles. I think it's open to some interpretation. Hits major like "Who's Cryin Now" and "Send Her My Love" aren't always played every tour.
My vote is Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'. Although I like the song, it's never been one of my favorites, and it has been done EVERY tour. If dropped, I don't think it would be missed as much as some of the others.
I wouldn't mind Open Arms being left off, but the band has tried that, and each time I've left a show where it was ommitted, too many people complained they didn't play it.
Your thoughts?

Anything off of TBF.
Actually, I wouldn't miss DSB. But I know there would be a riot if they dumped that one. Certain songs are untouchable, even though the hardcore fans have heard them a million times, such as:
DSB
Lights
WITS
Separate Ways
LTS needs to go. Now. And they need to keep IBAWY.

I'll get killed for this, but I don't care if I ever hear Open Arms again.

I wouldn't mind if they removed LTS So what are the "dirty dozen"
These are the songs that always get played
Seperate Ways
Wheel In The Sky
Lights
Don't Stop Believen
Any Way You Want It
LTS
Faithfully
Open Arms
Stone In Love
Escape
Ask The Lonley
Be Good To Yourself ( until this tour)
While escape and Ask the Lonley were never chart toppers they are great songs live

FINALLY. AR's posted something I can sink my teeth into! I will say it again: I've been a HUGE advocate of dumping for YEARS now and haven't been encouraged to see JOURNEY since 1998 because of the same tour under a different title. If the setlists change I will also find a way to financially make it as money is always TIGHT for me and my family. If I'm going to blow money on a concert then I want to get my money's worth - I want to hear something NEW and FRESH.
I agree that some songs are untouchable. They're part of the legacy. I think you have to look at each album and pull from it what is recognized as their legacy and ROTATE them rather than playing ALL OF THEM. It's been said that setlists are difficult because they have so much to choose from. Baloney. It's easy. The problem is that they haven't been bothering to promote their new stuff. If you go out promoting new stuff then the "legacy stuff" becomes concert HIGHLIGHTS - memorable highlights.
I like the list you made and would modify it and add tunes into groups according to legacy history:
WITS
Lights/Stay Awhile
LTS (legacy tune all the way)
AWYWI
DSB
Open Arms
SW
Faithfully
IBAWY
BGTY
WYLAW
Higher Place
All The Way
WAFTE
FITH
PIYH
Now to rotate. Simply take 2 songs from each group for a total of 8 for each set. That leaves plenty of room to promote new material around 8 highlights.
Rotating will makes some ears happy and leave others begging for more.

Even though they would never dump this one, I say DSB should go. I like it a lot but...so overplayed.
Every time I turn around that song is showing up somewhere. Enough already.
But that won't happen so I say get rid of Who's Cryin' Now.
Although I may be late on this because I believe if I read the interview correctly they already did dump it.
So great...just don't bring it back then.
And never ever ever dump Escape. That should be played forever.

None.
Keep them all, and if you are going to add anything, add minutes. Play them all.

In thinking about this thread I'm finding that I'd rather hear Jeff sing different Journey songs in the set than I would have liked to hear Steve Perry sing. Some of them are just so "Perry signature" for me that I would have been disappointed if he didn't sing them, but with Jeff I have others that I think his voice would lend a whole new life to for me. For example I never would have cared if Perry sang Escape, but I'd love to hear Jeff do it. I think DSB has sort of become the Journey "theme song" and has to be played, but I wouldn't mind not hearing it with Jeff. I would have been devastated if Perry skipped it though. Same with Open Arms, but Deen likes singing it so much that it wouldn't be fair to take it away from him.

I'd dump Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin', Open Arms, and even consider dumping Anyway You Want It (sorry...just a song that's always annoyed me!). Incidentally, I'd add I'll Be Alright Without You (and yes, I am aware they've started performing this). Jeff shines on IBAWY! I'd also add "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever" to replace Open Arms. I'm thinking Deen could shine on WCTNGOF!

I agree. And I agree with BlueJeanGirl76 that E5C4P3 should be included in every set list from now until the Earth explodes.

A lot of no Anyway you Want it. I did not expect that. I guess for me that was the song that first got me into Journey. Maybe it's kind of sentimental for me?

I don't think it translates well live for some reason.

Actually, right before the earth explodes, a satellite should be launched into the depths of space that sends out a signal, playing "Escape" until the thing runs out of gas.
In my opinion, the most expendable of the dirty dozen is "Ask the Lonely". LTS is indispensable, in my opinion, because it's kinda become an audience favorite, even as much as some of the bigger hits. I also like the bluesy intro they've been doing recently.

Even though it's one of those "Perry signatures" for me I've just got to hear Jeff sing it at least once.

Boy, AR, this is a hard one to decide. But if I had to pick one, I would pick Any Way You Want It.

If Escape is always in the setlist, someone's voice might explode. Someone's already did.
That one is a beast. It probably is what killed Augeri.
One of my favorites as well. Although to the general fan, I could see it as one they actually could drop in order to play new material without a lot of problems.
I'm with you all though - keep it.

NONE OF THEM.....Thats JOURNEY, their legacy...BUT, and I say BUT, we definitely need a longer concert so that all can be included with all the NEW MATERIAL we will have to listen to>>>I'm waiting patiently!!!!!!!
We need a NIGHT WITH JOURNEY again....

Anyway You Want It
Lights
Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'
I could do without any of these and still walk away a happy camper!

I'm with you. The only reason I liked it this tour was Deen was doing it. I think he put a different sort of "spin" on it. Otherwise, it can go. I like all of the songs in the "Dirty Dozen", but have heard them so often... Would love to hear some others. EOTB was a great addition - not everyone in the crowd appreciated it, but many of us did.
Here's one to get me hit for - I'd like to hear JSS do Kiss Me Softly. I was listening to it the other night and it just popped in my head. Not too mention it is sexy and I think JSS could put a great "spin" on that, too. LOL!
Any Way You Want It could go. IBAWY is great! Deen would definitely be great to hear on WCTNGOF.

Nononononononononono! No. No one but Perry should be singing that.
Unless they somehow get him back one day that song needs to stay buried.
You can have any other Perry-sung tune but that one. You can keep Mother Father and Open Arms and Faithfully and every other Perry-sung ballad in the catalog just leave WCTNGOF alone. Not that one. No.

We'll agree to disagree on this point. WCTNGOF is a superb Journey ballad that has been buried for far too long! Hell, it never really saw the light of day, even when it was released as a single, back in the ROR days! I'm a Perry fan just like everyone else, but Perry is retired from singing with Journey! I'd much rather hear WCTNGOF (I think they should have added about 5 more words to the title, just to get the length of it correct)

, than the sappy, cheesy Open Arms! That song should be given a decent burial!!!!

Well I'll agree on 2 things there - 1) yeah you can bury Open Arms. I wouldn't care. I'd rather hear Escape and Dead or Alive and a host of others before Open Arms (again, I love it but...enough already). And 2) no, WCTNGOF didn't get the justice it deserved back in the ROR days and I could just about smack Perry myself for not singing that in concert.
But I just don't want to hear that song coming out of anyone but him. Even if that means it stay buried. If you love something enough let it go right?

That's me in this case. I love that song enough that I would rather see it go completely away than hear anyone but Steve Perry singing it.

Well said. That is just Steve's song. I'd rather let it stay his. And please let Augeri keep Butterfly and Believe.
