Journey continues
Jeff Scott Soto is officially the new lead singer of Journey. He's the veteran Bay Area rock band's fourth front man and replaces Steve Augeri, the former Gap employee who eight years ago stepped in for Steve Perry.

Soto joined the band earlier this year when Augeri abruptly dropped out of its tour with Def Leppard on June 23, citing illness.

Internet rumors, however, suggested that for at least the past year Augeri had been lip-syncing along with old Perry recordings of Journey's hits. Some fans even posted audio and video clips to document the alleged deception.

According to Rolling Stone, when radio DJs picked up on the story, Augeri started once again performing live, resulting in a series of croaking, off-key performances.

Soto, who first performed with Journey on July 8 in Bristow, Va., is a former sideman for Yngwie Malmsteen and singer with disco covers band Boogie Knights.

Jesus Christ.

He wasn't lipping to Steve perry. He was lipping to himself.

They got it half right.

Who gives a shit? I am looking forward to a Soto led Journey that kicks my ass. I could give two shits about a guy who got caught faking. Whatever happens to him is his own problem. He made his bed and now can go lay in it.

I wish they hadn't said he was using Perry vocals, but at this point I'm just glad they got Jeff's name in there.

As a Journey fan I have to say that in, my opinion, this has been the low point in the bands career.I don't pretend to know all the details of this situation but I can honestly say that I can't think of any explanation or details that would make this type of thing OK to do.I think that lip synching to pre recorded tracks of yourself or anyone else for that matter is just not acceptable in a concert atmosphere.Hmm....reminds me of Milli Vanilli......OUCH

The "along with old Perry recordings" is the funniest (and most indicative of why some think the media fabricate things) part of the whole story.
