Question for Deano AND others....

I attended a show in Waukegan, Illinois that I know Deano and Suite Madame were at. Ironically, the friend that was with me turned and said "Hey it seems like Every Generation is a recorded vocal." Jon's vocals were exactly like the album. I don't like the song at all AND was pretty buzzed so I didn'y pay much attention. Has this ever been discussed and if so has anyone else noticed the same thing? I know Jon uses a lot of computers and I attributed the vocals sounding so good to that. I just wonder if Deano has a boot of that show. I'd love to hear it.

PS Consider I heard he (Deano) was running around the hotel parking lot in his underwear and making snow angels, I'd venture to say he was a bit buzzed too. Not that he wouldn't do something like that sober.

No comment on either matter. Please, let's not go there with this topic again.

I was at that show too. I don't recall thinking that there was anything amiss with any of the vocals. I was right up front, but on Neal's side of the stage. I do remember thinking that SA sounded like he had a cold, but that's all that really stood out to me. Oh, and Deen's singing was fabulous!!!

Sounds like from your response that there is more to it than just Augeri lippin'.

Yea, Deano's "No comment" really slammed the door on that question, huh Dave? :D

Yeah, no shit. A simple "Jon was not singing along to a vocal track." would have been the sing to say. For the record, I am NOT insinuating anything. I really didn't pay attention and think the song is SO bad I really couldn't care less if it actually WAS a vocal track.

As I and others (JC, NS, et al) have stated many times before, there have ALWAYS been sampled BACKING VOCAL TRACKS and other instrumental tracks synched with the performance for a VERY LONG TIME. Think Mid 80's when technology allowed such ideas to take shape in hardware that didn't require a forklift and racks of equipment and a team of engineers to operate.

The BV's aka CASPER in stagespeak, are "flown in" depending on the quality of the live performance. Usually, CASPER's track level is sufficiently under the live vocals so as to only lend sonic support and not be the predominate source. We have found, through years of performing this way, that the subsequent live vocals actually become more strong, in terms of initial pitch and timbre, over time, thus requireing less and less CASPER vocal to be needed. Call it Muscle memory or simple discipline in terms of correcting to the CASPER track, Which by it's nature is more likely to be right on than the LIVE vocal track.
These level decisions are made in real time by Kevin Elson, Live sound engineer and Co-defendant in the Tapegate Scandal. Tapegate could NEVER have worked without his active participation.
I submit that it was the technical staff's failure to adequately supervise the stage patch in Sweden that allowed the duplicity to be discovered. One could argue that the Production Manager, Stage Manger and Road Manager also share this responsibility, and I wouldn't argue against it.

Hey I was on Neal's side too, 4th row :)

I was just happy to go to any concert and I had a great time with the music and everyone around me. I remember Dean and Sadie saying that Steve's vocals weren't that great.

Deen's voice really stood out to me too each time I saw him!! :D

I was supposed to be there except a blizzard stopped me in my tracks
That would have been my last JRNY show ever.

You're welcome. Nothing like pulling the curtain back to get a clearer view, no?
