Not lipping for sure. BUT, the song still sounds like shit. A tragic piece of work to say the least. Boring, uninspired, emotionless shit piece of work. That song really sucks.

I dont like to criticize the band much, but what was that? That sounds bad.....and why was he being so self- indulgent and trying to play guitar and sing?... There stands before him one of the best guitar players ever......why was his playing needed? It just took away even more from the performance.....he was not concentrating on his vocals...kept looking down at his guitar and worrying about hitting the right notes on it...instead of worrying about hitting the right notes he was singing. Too much diversion to be playing a guitar when he was at a point were he was struggling to sound his best. He's not really a guitarist anyway. Singers should stick to singing...and let the guitarists play. Especially if you have Neal Schon there to do it.

Augeri sounds no worse than JSS does on that god-aweful reno,NV (Nov 06) boot....In fact, JSS was so horrible that show, that Augeri sounds amazing compared....

I really never cared that much for Butterfly. It's not a terribly bad song for it's type of song, but IMO it's not a Journey song.

That brings me to this speculation, and it is just pure speculation. Maybe Journey music was really just never Augeri's first choice of music to sing. I know he credited Steve Perry with being one of his inspirations on Red 13, but that doesn't mean he really wanted to sing the same kind of songs Steve Perry did. I've never heard his Tall Stories work so I can't make a judgement based on that. Some of the things he's said in interviews, a link to one of them is posted on here, sound like he would like to have had a chance to do his own thing musically with Journey. Based on the songs he contributed writing to on Gens I don't think his thing was the Journey thing. Because of that, maybe he just never really fit into the band in any way except that he started out with a range that could sing the catalog acceptably. Could that be why there was never any real chemistry with them and why his voice couldn't handle it? Just a thought.

i think i read somewhere that he was a pretty decent rythum guitar player, seems he had to play on this tour cuse for the first hour there was nothing for him to do..but he just looks uncomfortable playing and worry about his sound.. the band looks bored,, at 1:49 everyone has their back to the audience.. the band did sound great.. check out some of the responses under the video , geesh ,,

Not one of my finer moments but 'God-awful'...a little extreme, no? I remember getting no sleep on that trek from Boise, I finally slept at 6am & up at noon to get the day started, 6 hours of sleep usually makes for a rough one after singing the night before....no excuses here, just the facts on how the human (my) voice works.

I have the Reno show, I think Jeff sounds fine, JMHO. Those songs are HARD, so what if he sounds a little off towards the end? Isn't it dry as hell in Reno too? Correct me if I'm wrong any musicians here, but won't dry air take a toll on your voice too?

I listened to that show just today on my way to & from work, sounds good to me 8)

I don't know how musicians tour like that. Journey had a hell of a schedule last year. If I had a job with a schedule like that, I'd cry. I'm lucky to get through 40 hours a week slinging luggage. Either I'm a lazy ass, or I just like my play time too much, I'm not sure which.

What the fuck are you smoking?

To say Augeri sounds amazing compared to Soto is refuckindiculous.

I can't say for certain on this song, but half the time at least on this particular show, Augeri's guitar wasn't even plugged in.

Not surprised Jeff might have been a little "off" in Reno because the night before he freeking rocked in Boise!

BTW Jeff, thanks for wearing the Boise State football jersey at the show because the Broncos rode that mojo all the way to a 13-0 season topped off with an amazing win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl!!

Oh yeah, and did anyone else notice that even Neal dropped a clam during that video??

I listen to that show quite often too, and I love it! God awful is not how I would describe it! I would say only the last couple of songs were a little of a struggle, but it's a live show, how can you expect perfection! And with such a long continuous tour, with little break! I'm just happy I finally have something with JSS on it singing my favorite songs :D

I'm no expert, but when a live version of a concert is legitimately legally released, don't they do things to enhance and make better the sound quality before it is released? I don't get your point here?

THANK GOD someone else has said this.

Jesus, compare the earliest Augeri boots the earliest JSS boots. Augeri BLOWS him away AND he sang all the tunes.
Things are different now of course with Augeri's voice, but when I hear Jeff's boots, I can't imagine what he'll be like down the road as he's
already sounding strained in a big way.

This doesn't mean I don't like Jss. I do like him. I just can't see him as a viable Journey singer and if he's straining
as he is now, what's going to happen later? Will his voice be ruined as well? Let's hope not. Let's hope Journey
changes direction vocally so that the new stuff isn't as high as the old stuff.

What some don't seem to understand is that these bands are recorded constantly these days.

As great as Steve Perry was, the amount of live material available isn't that much when you really think about it. The guy had off nights. Also, I think many naysayers are tied to the studio recordings and do not understand what live rock music is really all about. Not saying Perry wasn't phenonminal, but then there was no internet and youtube to cover his every live note in each city all the time.

Jeff is under a microscope and it is completely unfair. The recordings I have heard show an amazing talent that Journey is EXTREMELY lucky to have in the year 2007. There is no one better suited to sing for this band.
