I wonder why do Ticketmaster have this "additional information" on the their page:"Steve Perry will not be singing for Journey."
Also, the Journey picture is still with Augeri in it.

Confusing and weird.

That's interesting. I wish they had gotten picture right, but it even took VH1 a few years to change Perry's pic out of their pictures when Augeri joined.

A lot of fans think another change if frontmen is going to have a huge negative impact on Journey. If people still don't know Perry hasn't been touring with them all these years though I don't think that's going to happen.

Alot of listeners of Journey are casual listeners and dont follow a long to what's going on with the band. It wouldnt surprise me at all if people still think Perry is still with them.

It'll take TM another 5 years to change the pic to show JSS instead of Augeri too.

lmao! That line was not there when that was first out, lol. That pic was though. Can you imagine how confusing for the casual fan who might expect Perry but read that, then see the pic of Augeri, but at the show see JSS? lol

Doesn't surprise me for Orlando though, even the news here had an interview with Augeri (from when Generations came out) aired right before the show here in November, making it look like he was still the singer.

I wonder if they really got so many calls that's why they did it?

I should call there & ask "Will Steve Perry be singing with Journey?", just to see what they say  lol.

Jeff has actually posted on this site, since he joined the band that "most" people he encounters are still convinced that Perry is still in Journey. I agree that the casual fan (which is more than 95% of the fans, showing up at these concerts) has zero idea about who or what is a part of Journey. They are there for the songs and don't even know who Neal Schon is.

It's a bizzare conundrum how Journey manages to operate almost totally under mainstream media's radar, yet continue to shift tickets...
You have Perry out there tending to the catalogue with label backing and a media platform but also acting as if Journey is not still existing....really odd. Yet the catalogue reissues due include the official band site's internet address. Could that be Perry doing that on his own, or the concession the band was granted in the reissue stuff?

You know, I'll go out on a limb and say this - But I think while most "casual" fans are there for the music, and don't know who Neal Schon is, I'd venture to say that even those "casual" fans know who Steve Perry is. Steve's kind of transcended Journey and his reclusive nature makes him a little more of an "icon" than just being the ex-singer of Journey. Look at the Steve Perry Psych-Out scene from BASEketball (Matt Stone & Trey Parker's movie), look at the 80's retrospective shows on VH-1, etc - Perry as a performer is one thing, but he's a little more iconic than that...I think most people going to a Journey concert - Age 18 or 60 - know who Steve Perry is...They may not recognize him from 200 feet away, hence many people being confused about Augeri with Journey and maybe not knowing if it was Perry or not...But I think most people going to a show are going to know who Perry is, know his name, whether they know if he's onstage or not...

I'm not sure SP has anything to do with the link to the official site, meaning that it's not his own decision...
I'm guessing that it might be a part of some sort of an agreement between managements. :?:

SPH, sorry not sure what exactly you were saying here, so sorry if this is the same comment.
But I think they put that little qualifier on there because alot of people have asked for their money back on tickets, it happened at one of the concerts I went to, there was a large group of very angry folk. So....this protects them, sorry if that is what someone else has already tried to convey on this thread.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I was saying. You KNOW there is a huge fan base out there who has no clue Journey is still out there touring. So when they see "Journey" I'm sure there are those who would be questioning or who would be upset to find out after, that it wasn't Steve Perry.

I guess my mind went there because I was this type of fan prior to this year. I have LOVED Journey for many years, but when Steve Perry left, I basically played my CD's and continued to love them. It wasn't until this summer, when I decided to see them live, that I realized they were still a band, without Steve Perry. Maybe I just live in a box, I don't know, but I tend to think it's the publicity that's the problem.

Anyway, we were supposed to see Steve Augeri, it ended up to our surprise and delight to be Jeff Scott Soto instead. We saw 4 more concerts and the rest is history. Since then, I have spent time trying to convince the people I know, that if we can't have Steve Perry back, Jeff Scott Soto is an awesome front man. I did a pretty good job of spreading that word to some of the Def Lep fans at the concerts I attended this year and was happy to see so many die hard Def Leppard fans become instant Journey fans. Anyway, I went on and on here, just wanted you to get what my comment meant :D

Glad you made it out of that box there SPH   lol

It is so true though how many people have no idea SP ever even left, have no idea who SA is or that he was with Journey, & now have no clue about JSS either. One of my aunts even freaked out on me at Thanksgiving, she found out I had been to a few Journey concerts over this last tour & she gasps "Oh I would have loved to have gone & see Steve Perry live!".....I almost spit out my wine, lol.

You should check out the bio that Ticketmaster has on Journey. It really made me sad to see that I somehow missed the Trial By Fire tour in 1996.

http://www.ticketmaster.com/artist/735415#mbio

"In 1996, Perry, Schon, Cain, Valory, and Smith staged a Journey reunion, releasing the million-selling Trial by Fire, which featured the gold-selling Top 20 single "When You Love a Woman," and going on tour. Perry and Smith opted out of the reunion after the tour"

LMAO!! Damn! I missed that tour, too! WTF!
boy, I wish they had gone on tour. I thought he was great in '94, and was so devastated when they didn’t tour.
Still one of those great frustrations for me. soooo close, but... psyche.

i know when i went to see journey back in 2005 there were ppl at the show surprised to find out that sp no longer sings for journey. 2006? i'm thinking it helped ppl realize (no more sp or sa) when jss was announced before each show.

I can see how the casual masses at the concerts may not know the difference between Perry and Augeri on stage since they haven't seen Perry for so many years. They probably don't even remember the things that made Perry special like we Perryheads do.

I'm hoping that when they start promoting the next CD and album they'll capitalize on the new frontman rather than just sliding him into the mix.

several states have now adopted a law that covers artist out on tours.here is the one from illinois just enacted this year

And people who try to fool audiences into thinking they're really The Ramones, M.C. Hammer or The Jackson 5 will now face the wrath of state law.

Copycat musical groups could face fines of up to $50,000, have their performance licenses suspended or be required to pay damages for misrepresenting themselves as the original artists. All live acts will have to advertise they're performing a salute or tribute if they use the name, songs and personas of another group.

Supporters, including Mary Wilson of The Supremes, are pushing to get the law passed in every state to prevent copycats from cashing in on their fame.

"From now on when the public goes to a rock 'n' roll show in the area, they can be sure the artist is the original, and not some rip off band," Wilson said in a statement

Wow, interesting. I wonder how this law would have applied to Journey over the last 9 years. So many personel changes have taken place since the conception of the band with the name Journey. What about Chicago and Styx? Maybe it's the legal right to the name that's the deciding factor. If so, it's not going to stop a lot of ripoffs. The Little River Band is the best example I can think of.

Steve Perry WAS Journey. 20 Years ago or so. Then there was about 10 years or so of NO JOURNEY. Then the lame TBF and NO TOUR. Another 10 years have gone by and Steve Perry still has not released any new solo music. He has not participated in anything Journey. Unless you count rehashing his glory days by releasing archived material.

Steve Perry is a has been. He is not even a nostalgia act.

Not that tough. Who do most people that know who Journey is know as their frontman? Who sang the songs that the audiences are still demanding today over any new material that's been released since? Who has become an iconic figure among rock vocalists? It sure isn't Augeri. As long as audiences keep buying tickets to hear the hits that Perry made famous he's not a has been and he's only as much a nostalgia act as Journey is.

A "has been" would be someone, or a group of people, that tour and/or record to little or no response. Perry has done neither. "Out of the public eye/spotlight" would be a MUCH better way to describe Perry. "Has been" holds no water because you have nothing to base that on.
