Concert embarrassments

This question is not just for JSS, but what as been seen or done by you in concert that might have been embarrassing

Have you ever dropped the microphone when your throwing it around from hand to hand? I know JSS fell in the rain on stage this year. Saw Brett in Poison do it once.

Saw Richard Marx sit down at the piano and the stool collapse and he was lying on his back with his feet up by the keys.

JP from Survivor was playing keys getting down and the keyboard, and the keys fall off the stand. He stood up there acted like he was stilling playing while two roadies ran out there and picked it up (which he started playing) and hooked it back up.

Dennis in Styx forget to turn his keyboard on at the beginning of Too Much Time.. reach down turn it it on play the intro during the opening guitar part, band and him keep on going like nothing happened.

SP said he did that too! Guess anything can happen on stage...let's hope Commando Jeff doesn't have any fly problems...like a certain someone. I did find it embarrassing to go to a Tom Jones concert in the 80s with my mom & her friend...I was in town and the audience was average age 75 (or so it seemed to youngin' me) and all this underwear was flying from every direction, & over my head and TJ is wading in them on stage...like I said, the average age was 75. I'll probably be like that.

Saw Ted Nugent run out on stage and slip and bust his ass at the Texas Jam at the Cotton Bowl. That was ages ago. He got back up and didn't miss a beat. Stage hands were all over the place with towels drying the stage.

At the Verizon Wireless show in Irvine, CA last year Steve Augeri had a wardrobe malfunction I am not sure how long his zipper was down, but when he figured it out he turned bright red, and turned his back to the audience quickly to fix it.

I also remember one show that Stryper played where the drummer kept falling off of his drumset. I think he may have been acting a little unGod like and partying a bit too much before the show He fell several times before they finally got boo'd off of the stage.

Hey... I was at that show! Capitol Center...right? I was so fucking bummed about Dokken cancelling their set...I guess Lynch was pretty fucked up that night...they said he had a major hangover or something..but I bet it was more than that.

Saw the opening night of the last Boston tour. Tom Scholz and band started playing Peace of Mind or something off the first album, can't remember exact song, but the new bass player Kimberly forgot to start playing and missed about 2 or 3 bars before she figured out where to start. Pretty funny. They acknowledged that it was a little rough sometimes on the first night.

I saw Steven Tyler of Aerosmith fall off the stage when he was completely wasted, and he fell into some scaffolding and broke his jaw. This was in the early 80's in Springfield, Illinois. The show was abruptly ended after only five songs, and a riot almost ensued. Before he fell off the stage, Tyler was slurring the lyrics, stumbling around, drooling and slobbering on the mic, and even fell down several times. Bass player Tom Hamilton angrily smacked Tyler with the neck of his bass in the back of his head at one point during the show.

Shortly after this happened, Aerosmith broke up and Joe Perry started the Joe Perry Project. Fortunately, Tyler got off the heroin, cleaned himself up, and made some more good music. He is one of my all-time favorite singers.

I was at the Creed show in Chicago a few years back, and Scott Stapp was wasted. He kept laying down or sitting down on the stage while he sang. He walked off a few times. Then they just ended the show early. It was an awful show. The venue stopped all concession sales when they realized there was a problem, because I guess they were worried about people getting drunk and causing problems. So you couldn't even get a bottle of water.

Believe me, I hate Dokken. I paid to see Aerosmith. I used to have bad luck with opening acts. Went to see Van Halen and After the Fire opened. And, of course, Glass Tiger opening for Journey.

Other embarassments:

-Any time Def Leppard plays "Make Love Like a Man"
-Journey - Baltimore/Rams Head Live on the Generations tour (for obvious reasons)
-All country music concerts

Don Dokken is right up there vocally with Dennis DeYoung, Mickey Thomas, Brad Delp, etc. And George Lynch is one of the very few lead guitartists that established his very own unique and amazing style....like Eddie Van Halen, Neal Schon, Jimmy Page. Dokken was an excellent band, they rocked and melodically! Give us a break and get your ears checked.

Hell yeah! I saw George Lynch openin for Yngwie in 2004,,, it was AWESOME!!!!
I also liked the Dokken's "Up from the ashes" where Europe's John Norum shredded like crazy! Another one of my guitar hereos!!

DLR did something similar with VanHalen in Memphis. Summer of '81 I think. He couldn't hardly stand, so he had a stool. But then he'd fall off that and mumble, "sorry memphis, I'm so f'd up". What was kinda cool about it was that Michael sang more and Eddie would play more licks to help cover.

On a related note, Dokken was at Monsters of Rock with VanHalen, Scorpions, Metallica & Kingdom Come. I thought they were great. This was summer of '88, I think. 140 degrees that day in the Liberty Bowl. Good thing the water cannons were flowing. (Made for great wet-tshirts too!)
