Tribute song to Steve Perry & Neal Schon

Was reading this interview with Joey Tempest about the new EUROPE album,"Secret Society",
and I was very touched to see that they wrote a song as a tribute for Journey,especially to Steve Perry and Neal Schon.
The song is called "Forever Travelling".

Joey Tempest:"That’s another track the guys in the band really, really like… myself included. It has sort of a melodic sense that takes you back a little bit to some of the older EUROPE stuff. Lyrically, it’s actually fragments of memories of living in San Francisco because we wrote a lot of stuff there during the time we did “Prisoners In Paradise.” It’s just memories of being in California… hearing JOURNEY on the radio and Steve Perry’s voice. It’s sort of a tribute to Steve Perry and Neil Schon who gave us a lot of inspiration when we were teenagers. Me and John Norum use to listen to a lot of JOURNEY stuff and loved Steve Perry and Neil Schon. We thought they were just great musicians, had great tone, great vibrato… so we actually stayed on Lombard Street in San Francisco for a while. Me and the whole band… so it’s just a reflection and tribute to JOURNEY from our band."

I was going to buy the album anyway...I still love Europe,it's one of my fave bands of the late 80's.
Europe had a live concert in Bucharest on New Year's Eve...Tempest is still SO cool...

I saw them at the HOB during the Start From The Dark tour. They were fuckin' awesome. I always thought of them as sort of "poser." However, live they are really amazing. I was VERY impressed. Joey is a great frontman. He still has all of his voice. Hell, I thought he sounded better live than he ever did on ANY of their CD's. I highly recommend this band live. You won't be disappointed.

I think that someone in Europe could neither confirm nor deny the rumors of a Journey / Europe tour. I know that Journey will be taking the summer off from the United States, but now that I hear this about that new song the tour pairing makes more sense. Perhaps Europe might open for Journey on the 2008 tour for the new album.

I would love to see them with Europe. And like it or not (the song), the crowd goes fuckin' nuts when they play "The Final Countdown." That is a kickass live song. It's sped up slightly and rocks a lot more live. Much like Separate Ways does versus its studio version. Europe has a fine catalog.

I must admit, I'm not too familiar with Europe other than The Final Countdown. Any suggestions on albums to check out for starters?

I don't know anything about Europe. The name sounds familiar but I can't remember any of there songs. The sample I just heard of their tribute song to Steve and Neal though makes me think this would be a good pairing. If they respect the talent of Journey that much they have to be good.

my first exposure to europe was the video for the final countdown. i HATED it! eventually i gave some of their other material a chance, saw them live & decided they were pretty good. the house they lived in is a block from the twisty part of lombard st & has gorgeous views. very cool that journey & their memories of the city inspired them to write a song. nice guys. heavy drinkers.

yeah, they were in one of the buildings on the block below the crooked part. i don't remember which one, but i recall views of the bay, coit tower & the pyramid. it must have been heartbreaking for them to move out.

now that i think about it, mtv's real world sf was based on that block. i wonder if it was the same building. sorry, i've gone terribly off-topic.

LMAO, you know how many times me and my brother and sister made my dad drive down that thing on vacation when we were kids. After about the 2nd or 3rd time he said ENOUGH! We were kids, we didn't care about fishermen's wharf, GG bridge, etc........all we cared about was the steep crooked road and Alcatraz.

I think the same happens today - I have seen cars driving down with kids half-out the back windows laughing all the way down!
Can't say the drivers were too happy,tho,it's a difficult street to cruise on!

For some reason I climbed those stairs up and down several times just like a kid,until I was half dead and breathless,but it was worth the fun!

Sorry to resurrect this older thread, but I wanted to give credit where it's due. Just realized today that the song "Forever Traveling" on Europe's "Secret Society" was actually a tribute to Perry (and Schon). Someone in our other Europe thread tipped me off to the "Wheel In The Sky" reference, but once I listened to the song, I realized there was much more... First of all, some classic Schon-sounding guitar interludes are tossed in by Norum, and Joey Tempest mimics a few Perryisms (woahhh-oh-ooh-oh-ahh) that are not normally his thing. But the lyrics are very cool, with direct references to two Journey songs. The song is awesome, and a wonderful tribute to "The Voice". Check the lyrics out:

Yep, Herbie was their manager around the Prisoners In Paradise time period, at least in the states. And Kevin Elson produced The Final Countdown and Start From the Dark albums. There are Journey connections everywhere.
