Hi guys n gals

Hope u r all well!!

Not been around much.. hooray say some !! :?

Been busy doin Macca tribute/lookalike stuff ...... couple trips to Madrid to do some TV satire sketches, mainly about Macca's marriage position.. divorce etc etc ..lots of fun, I got a DVD of the first batch that were broadcast... may try n put one up on youtube when I get a chance..TV company are called "Globomedia" the show is Primetime..so it was cool!
here is their link: http://www.globomedia.es/

Just been to London to do some promo work for a new DVD quiz game from Brittania Games, they aquired the license from Northern Songs who own copyright to Beatle lyrics..its a biggie for them... they cant use the word "Beatle" but can use the names Lennon and McCartney... distributors reckon it will clock up a million sales in UK alone... they may be using me for "voice-over" stuff on it too..... exciting stuff !!!!!!!!!

Anyway...been busy...blah blah.... etc etc

Kickin around today...thought I would do a vocal over "Jet" ..its part of my set, anyway ... I produced all my backing tracks using a decent spec PC, an Athlon, Cubase, Roland XV synth, with expansion cards, Gibbo Les Paul... Hofner Bass, Behringer mic, and a Jo Meek compressor.

Had to decrease the original wav file, right down to a measly 64 bits to get it thru "Yousendit" ..but..hey..there ya go

Hope you enjoy it... Ive always thought this track is one of Macca's "rockingest"
regards

Neil

I thought it was good, this coming from a huge McCartney fan all around who is very critical of people covering his songs.

I to am a huge Sir McCnartney fan
Him and Elton John are the reasons I am
a classic rock fan.

I think you did a great job on this
one Neil, and it just so happens that
this was the song that sucked me into
Paul's music.

Thanks for the link fella!

Good tracks, some vocal issues

In regards to the instruments, you did a very good job of recreating the original sound of the recording. Your guitars and bass come very close to approximating McCartney's lines - excellent. Same goes for the drumming/programming. Nicely done. The synth lines come close to the MiniMoog solos, although it doesn't sound like you applied enough 'portamento' to the patch. Given that the MiniMoog was a monophonic synth, the portamento gave the line that connected/smooth glide on the original recording.

Vocally there are some slight pitch and intonation problems in the lead. I would go back and spot-check some of the lines and try to punch in some corretions. Also, the recording of the vocal doesn't mix well with the rest of the track. Did you consider doubling your vocal track as well in order to beef up your sound? The backing vocals fare better with the mix, but still have some pitch problems in places.

Nonetheless, nice effort!

thanks for the comments all

I generally think you all have valid points...well..maybe not "Froy" haha !!

Agree with the "intonation" comment.... and I guess I really should "punch in" a couple of lines ...but I was lazy.... did the whole thing in 2 passes, verses first, and "bridges, next. ... no time to faff around ....

I have double tracked vox in the past..and yes... it does beef it up tremendously...the Beatles did this all the time...and they werent particularly careful about doing it too perfectly either...still..it sounded great!

Its always a prob to get the lead vocal to "sit right" in a mix ...esp in a home studio environment, where the acoustics of a "spare box room" aren't the best! Ive learnt over a period of time, that u can agonise for hours over "how much reverb" to throw in, or how much "compression" ... sometimes I gotta just do it and move on! .... but I will go back to this one, and re-do a couple of the "wilder" lines ....certainly the first batch of "Ah Mater's" could do with being "reined in a little bit"

thanks for the constructive comments though... appreciated! :)

Larry..... Portamento... I laughed too!! but the guy knows his stuff, and has taken the time to really listen!
