O.T. Does anyone remember the band, CHASE, from the 70s?

I was just going back in time in my mind today...in 1972 I was a 12 yr old in the Midwest & babysat for one of the band members of this band. I just looked this up on the Net tonight:

http://www.amazon.com/Chase/dp/B00004V6 ... 97-0121430

It was crazy because the band member (and I can't for the life of me remember the name) had 5 kids, the oldest being about 1 yr younger than me! The band member & his wife had to go to PA for a gig one night & left me to watch these kids until they returned about 3 or 4 in the morning. It sounds crazy now but I was very responsible as a kid. What I remember was this album cover very clearly etched in my mind & that several band members died in a plane crash later (not the one I babysat for) & I guess the remaining band broke up. That was such a crazy night - those kids were wild & I had my younger sister helping me -- we ended up all asleep on the living room floor. They moved away some time after that. It's amazing what you can find on the Internet!

Yes, I remember Chase. Trumpeter Bill Chase and several of his band mates were killed in a plane crash on August 9th, 1974.
Chase was a unique band that had FOUR TRUMPETS and came along right after the success of Chicago & Blood Sweat & Tears. They were also from Chicago. Bill had played with Maynard Ferguson & Woody Herman before forming his own band. Their only hit was Get It On in 1971. Our high school marching band used to play that.
Bill is fondly rememberd by many. I once spoke to Jim Peterik of The Ides of March & Survivor. Jim had worked with Bill on some of the Chase albums. When I asked Jim about Bill he just smiled at me and said, "The man was genius!"

Here are links to the website that gives an update and pics of all the bandmembers:

Oh, thanks for that - it was bugging me trying to remember the name - I recognized it on that site - it was G.G. Shinn I babysat for. It was kinda unusual that someone in a band with an actual album out there was living in our boony neighborhood.

It's also funny that you should mention Survivor. In 1982 I was waiting in O'hare airport for my ride & struck up a conversation with another waiting girl. We were cold (it was snowy) & getting madder & madder at our late rides. Turns out we were both on the same flight from CA & she told me she had been visiting her boyfriend in Malibu - he was in a group called, Survivor. I said I hadn't heard of them & she said they just did a song for a new Sly Stallone movie. I wonder which band member was her boyfriend (I kinda think she said the drummer but I don't remember).

1982, yep, that's the year they hit it big with Eye of the Tiger. Missed their show in Philly that year where they played on a bill with Kansas. The members of Survovor in 1982 were: Dave Bickler(vocals), Jim Peterik(vocals, kybds, gtr), Frankie Sullivan(gtr), Stephen Ellis(bass) & Marc Droubay(drums)

I figured you'd recognize the guy you sat for if I sent you the website links. Good for you!
