For those of you that have been to the concerts recently, you may have noticed that Jon Cain has dropped the keyboards on this song in favor of guitar. MY honest opinion, I think the piano parts are an integral part of Where Were You...not that the song doesn't sound good..as Neal has also ad libbed a new solo part to it...BUT I just feel there's something missing in this song without that signature piano in the background.....

I agree. The Whale is a necessary part of that song.

I had the same feeling watching the Pompano boot...with the piano part missing, the song sounds a bit odd.
That Little Richard-ish fired up piano sound should stay there where it was meant to be!
Don't take the cherry out of the pie, boys!

Agreed.
Play keyboards Jon and leave the guitar to Neal.

Do I sense some sarcasm in that remark, Arkansas? In answer to your question..the average person probably wouldn't notice...but when I'm at a concert, I watch the musicians, as well as absorb the music.

Jon needs to get off the guitar during this song and pound the hell of the Whale's keys. Shit, piano is a big part of this song........ Ya hear me Jon? Get back on the piano !

As someone who's played both keys and lead guitar in different bands, I can tell you firsthand that the keyboard player always secretly wants to be the guitarist. It's just how it is.

Well then, if Jon wants to get up and stretch his ego, um, I mean legs

let Jeff play the keys while he sings.

The keyboards are being sequenced in Chain Reaction, I don't know why they couldn't do the same thing for Where Were You. That honky tonk piano is an integral part of the song.

That piano part {although not difficult} really adds to the song. Jon should play it, or like ohsherrie mentioned have Jeff play it. Steve P would run up to the keys at times. I ve heard Jeff on the keys and he is good.
