It's rumored he was around during the Frontier's sessions...so '82 / '83...I recently discovered he was on a Tom Coster (Vital Information keyboard player) solo album, with Steve Smith around '81 / '82. He's not a bad player, actually....So maybe it was Steve Smith that referred him?

I always heard at that time that Randy was one of those sought out studio musicians at that time , kinda like the guys from toto--they were on so many big name albums in the 80's

Randy played on A LOT of records in the 80's including Stryper, Jon Bon Jovi,Michael Bolton,Mariah Carey, and many more.
He also played on After The Fall on the Frontiers record. He is an AWESOME bassist.

While ROR is in the lower half in terms of my favorite Journey albums, it's still a great release. I think Randy Jackson's low-down funky bass grooves add an unique flavor to the record. He's better than Ross, but Ross is Journey (along with Neal).... so yeah.

Ross was / is a better player for Journey. Dare I say it but Randy plays a little more 'white'...ROR is a Steve Perry solo effort (hence the saxaphones on Positive Touch...lol)

Randy is a killer bass player for sure.
ROR is a JOURNEY album. It says so on the cover. Its WAY more JOURNEY sounding than that sheer abomination called Generations. Everyone seems to class that as a Journey album, and that one is wayyyy off the map.
