Question for all of you:

Wow....it's been pretty exciting lately, huh?

I mean, with Prince at the Half-Time show; The Police going on Tour later on this year...and now Genesis, getting back in the game, WITH Phil Collins...

I was talking with my Sister before; I asked her if she and her husband wanted to go with Mark and me to Madison Square Garden to see "The Police" in August...the tix go on sale Tuesday; I needed a confirmation for Mark.

As I was talking to her, it hit me like a ton of bricks:

I was SO AMPED UP AND EXCITED about seeing this Concert!! I haven't felt like that in SO LONG....not since the FTLOSM Tour, back in '95.

So, here's what I'm getting at: and I'd like to know your thoughts:

RE: THE EIGHTIES AND THEIR "COMEBACK":

1. Was the music really THAT GOOD?

2. Or, is it the fact that we're trying to "recapture" the "lost excitement" of younger days?

Both.

That, and they can't make any money off of record sales.

I was never much of a Sting/Police fan, but Prince and Phil Collins were two of my favorites, along with Duran Duran and Lionel Richie. And I've recently heard that Wham! is reuniting. (They were my first concert~six 17 year old girls drove from Virginia to Philly for that one~George Michael was 'dating' Brooke Shields at the time, and we stumbled across her limo in the parking lot. We made nice with the driver, and he let us all pile inside~we thought we were hot shit then...)

And then there's Journey. I must admit, I wasn't too keen on SP's looks back then, but his music was something else. The interesting thing is that much of those other groups music has been somewhat lost, whereas Journey's music is timeless. I attribute that to the vocals of Steve Perry. He's a one-in-a-million!!!

since we are "spillin" our guts here..... my first concert was journey with bryan adams opening. then billy idol, YES, rod stewart etc...i
would love to see george micheal, outside the bathroom though.

In March 1985 Norman surprised me with tix for my birthday to see Lionel..oh what a show..he knew that I loved him and got us tix...what a guy!!Not real crazy about prince but do like Phil Collins...
The reason the 80's music is making a comeback is b/c the music today is SHIT...all of it...
People are running to see these bands again b/c the music was good and singers actually sang live(most of the time)
Besides there is nothing like a live concert....gets your heart and soul going....

Very simple - music is shit these days.

Our era was great, and we spend money on tickets.

It pisses me off that radio ignores our bands. For example - the last Cheap Trick CD was radio worthy. Not a peep though. Not even on classic rock stations.

ok, i can honestly say this, but remember being in the 6th
grade and actually saying to my friends that i wanted lionel to sing at my wedding. funny how that turns out....a soundsystem took his job.

I mean, when MY Grandparents were in their 50s, they looked & acted ANCIENT! ....and I'm not saying this from "a young kid's" point of view, either...even NOW, when I look at old pics of them at that age, they look so.......OLD.....

Considering I was still in diapers when "Synchonicity" came out, I'd love to go see the Police, geezers or not. But at $225 a ticket? Not gonna happen.

Unfortunately I'm sure lots of other rich suburban people will pay that, ensuring concerts will be out of normal people's price ranges for at least another year.

That's what's so cool about the current baby boomer generation and our generations coming! We were brought up on rock and roll. We won't stop liking it or wanting to hear it no matter how old we are! That's what will keep us so much younger than our grandparents were!

It's gotta be hard for veteran artists who've worked their asses off year after year busting their asses on the road to make ends meet, see these semi-talented teenie boppers have instant success. Take a guy like Soto. As a complete artist he could run circles around anyone AI has ever had. Yet, I'd venture to say that Kelly Clarkson has probably already outearned him because of endorsements, concerts, and a ludicrous contract with her label. That show makes me want to puke. And the way they exploit retards/"slow" people is deplorable. Yeah, that's something I want to watch. I think William Hung's album actually went Gold or Platinum. Shows you what kind of people watch that show.

The music is like any era. There is good and bad. It starts out great then there are bands that become a parody of the music and style. Every decade has it. Plus yeah, sometimes we do want to relive our youth!
