Neal interview regarding tapegate...beyond belief!!

This was on the Journeyforum regarding an interview with Neal ,if you belive the tape allegations or not his comment on this subject as a key band member is beyond belief :? Go to Link for full info.

http://www.journeymusic.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/032934.html

Neal and Jeff Scott Soto got together about three weeks back for a couple of days intensive writing, coming up with about 18 ideas. He says there's a more immediate writing chemistry with JSS than with Steve Augeri . . it's more like the spark he had with Steve Perry. There might be some recording sessions later in the year.
He's spoken to Augeri recently, who says he is 50% of the way back. On the lip-synching allegations, he said he wasn't aware of it at the time in question and doesn't think it happened . . . if it did, then he didn't know about it.

Whether it's legit or not, that is the answer I expect to hear. What else is he going to say? It's more or less an admission that it happened. If it didn't, he'd be the first one to say "Fuck no it didn't happen. We're a live band." What he said is as close to an admission as you're ever going to get.

This is triggering my "disenfranchised/wounded/mentallyillAugerifan" dar to work overtime.

I searched the so-called site and found no mention of "Schon." And think about the pattern of Augeri wishful thinking prop-ups:

-Neal and him talk
-Neal can report he's 50% better
-Neal denies the tapes were used (tag along a "he denies KNOWLEDGE of their use" to enhance the believablitiy)

and the biggest seeming whopper of all...........................

the Dallas dvd is STILL going to see the light of day.

Hell I'd love to believe all those things, but I just don't especially when some escapee singed our taints the other day with the bogus VH interview.

I could be wrong.

I don't think it's an internet rumour.

Certainly the guy that did the interview is legit. He's a friend of mine and I have no reason to disbelieve that the interview took place. It's for a local UK newspaper and isn't due to be published in full for a couple of weeks - hence you won't have found any reference to it yet.

He was simply publishing a few snippets from his interview on the JourneyRockUK forum and BT for friends there, and it's been copied and pasted into various other places including here.

No conspiracy - as far as I know :D

I could almost believe he said all of it up until the Dallas show. There's no way that think will ever be released once the do a new CD and tour with Jeff. They seem to have come out of the tapegate thing unscathed, so why would the risk starting it up again by releasing something with Augeri on it? Doesn't make sense.

Well, it's my local newspaper that I get delivered so I'll look out for it and also probably a big write up on the gig.

It would make sense IF they signed a contract for the release of this DVD.I believe it was an expensive production made especially with the purpose of releasing this DVD.So it would be normal for the band to sign a contract with the production company or something like that.
Dunno if I make enough sense and of course I could be wrong, but that's how I see it,IF what Neal says is true.

Maybe Journey managed to postpone the release for a period of time, but if the contract says they have to release it,they eventually will have no choice but release it.

Just my 2 cents.

Well, looks like the guy is legit, maybe it's just another of Neal's little faux pas.

For once, Neal may have said the right things. The Dallas 30 year DVD will never see the light of day. Why would it? It's NOT gonna sell. However, keeping the Augeri faithful pacified is a good idea as it brings them back to shows. Also, lying about tapegate not happening further gives the idiots who don't believe it happened something to hang their hats on. What he said is what's best for the band. He's saying what needs to be said in order to get the most fans to the 2008 concerts.

The Dallas DVD WILL NEVER COME OUT. I can guarantee you that. If they are serious about releasing it, they deserve the shit they will most certainly take for it. You cannot release a DVD of a singer lipping....NO FUCKING WAY!

Well, when you put it that way it makes perfect sense.

Is this the same DVD that JSS was asked about over at BT? Someone asked him a question about releasing a DVD (I read it a while ago, so am unsure about the specifics) and Jeff replied that the production had been halted and that he had no influence in getting it released? Jeff seemed to be fairly certain that this project had been scrapped for good.

It is the same DVD, Donna. There has been an ongoing petition over at BT for its release. One BT'er actually asked Jeff if there was anything he could do about it. In essence, Jeff said he didn't have any say in it. No influence whatsoever. I believe that it is up to Neal, Jon, and management if the DVD will see the light of day. :D

Here's an unpopular stance to take, but if it's done, why not release it? Someone paid for it's production, why not make a little back on it. Only the wigglers will buy it anyway, and maybe it's release was a conditional part of Augeri's golden parachute?? Who knows! :P

So, it appears to be a legit publication & this is actually what Neal said...but...I just don't understand the part about "not being aware of the lipping"?? Why not just say, "no comment" - 'cuz how could a guitarist standing next to a singer on stage every night not know? Maybe, this interview will elaborate on that or someone can enlighten me 'cuz right now it makes Neal sound like he was in another world during that time. :?

If Neal tuned Augeri out a while ago - Meaning if his voice was too distracting and his struggling made it difficult for Neal to focus on his performance - It's very possible that his personal in ear monitor mix had very little, if any, Augeri in his ears. I watched an Under the Radar show during which Augeri looked like he was having a blast and ducked notes left and right and strained on high parts throughout the entire evening, and if you think Neal would have enjoyed listening to that night after night, you are nuts. A lot of automation is running through those IEMs, from click tracks, to backing vocals, to supplemented keyboards. If you are Neal Schon are you going to focus on making your guitar sing, or what appears to be coming out of your singer's mouth versus his monitor system?

Now the extent to which the tape usage was a band decision is debatable. I've always thought that it was initially used as a supplement that grew into a crutch and worse, but the extent of what was used out front was ALWAYS at Elson's discretion.

Thanks for the explanation Jeremey.

I think Neal knew something was going on, but he may have chosen to "not know" the extent of it. Especially if his hands were tied legally as to what could be done about it.

I'll just say this regarding Neal....If I were in his shoes, on stage with a singer I had little chemistry with, I would be focused almost 100% on my own performance and enjoy my own little world, with the obligatory smile and nod every now and then in SA's direction.

No, it's an awful thought, no offense J. If they are so fucking stupid, to try to fool the fans again, then they will die a slow death, rather a quick one. If I could figure out the use of pre recorded tracks on audio, and not being aware of it, how hard can it be for me or others, to see a lipped VIDEO?

Conditions of the separation contract? Uh, no. If Augeri were that stupid, as to want a DVD of him lipping, then he has no right to even be in this business...same for Neal. Neal and Jon know fans are out there who could expose them second stanza into Only the Young. Forget it, never ever happening.
