I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

well, that got me crying now! That is so wonderful to go out of their way to welcome home the men & women who are returning from the war...especially, the veterans who did not feel that from Vietnam & Korea. Bless their hearts!
thanks for posting that.

It's about a guy that lives here in DFW that goes out every day to welcome the troops home that are landing at DFW Airport. He has a whole crew of people that go out as a "welcome home" committee. It's pretty cool. I'm thinking about joining him.

Melissa, it is a 69 year old man who goes every day or nearly every day to the airport to welcome home returning troops from the war. He & a bunch of people do this, many of them Vietnam & Korea war veterans who feel it is important. And, it is.
(boy, you're fast Texas!) :)

From the DFW Airport Website:

Every day, more than 100 soldiers come through DFW Airport on their way home for two weeks of much-anticipated rest and recuperation (R&R). Under the R&R program, American servicemen and women receive these brief vacations from tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. DFW Airport welcomes home these members of the armed forces as they return from duty. One R&R flight lands every day at DFW, and this warm welcome home starts their two weeks of R&R on a high note. DFW has assisted thousands of men and women since the R&R flights first started in November 2004.

Even if your travels plans do not including flying in the next couple months, don’t let that stop you from visiting your local airport to Welcome Home a Hero. To get involved and for more information visit:
