Not just talking about Journey. It's everyone.

Did anyone read the article on the MR front page with Bob Ezrin?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The old things are gone. In the next couple of weeks, maybe months, there will be a bloodbath at the major record companies. We're not at the tipping point, we're on the other side." He said the goal of having a hit record is a bad goal.
"Maybe one person in this room will have a hit record. The days of hit records are over," he said. "It's about being something real. . . people need to change their goals in order to survive as entertainers." At the end of the day, it's about live performance, he said.

"You've got to play. What no one can steal is your direct relationship with the audience, you can't duplicate that love affair." Ezrin says many performers don't know how to play live.

"You've got to get good. If you're a singer, you have to learn how to sing. You're not an actor or a rock star. You're a singer. That's your job. You have to master your craft."

People need a deep understanding of what it feels like to play music and should learn the music of musicians they admire

Besides being good at live performance, entertainers should always stay beind after a show to meet fans, shake hands, sign CDs and give URLs for fan clubs. Get their e-mail address, tell them you want to let them know when you're coming back."

And work on your web presence. Your web representation to many people is you. You wouldn't not change your clothes for six months, not learn a new song for two years. Why have the same picture on your website?
Stop thinking about how to have a hit record and think about new ways to grow the audience and get paid to do something we love."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some good advice.

Best quote of all in this day and age. Tons of work to do over at the "Official Site". I rarely visit anymore, I get more info from MR and other sites long before it's posted over there. I am not trying to take shots, but it's tough to argue with the web presence thing.

The only line I don't agree with is this blame he puts on trading. It doesn't stop Kelly Clarkston or others from selling millions. I think now more than ever music is a young mans game. Journey, Tom Petty or Cheap Trick don't fail to sell records because of online trading!
