Randy compared AI contestant to SP???????

Postby ArnelRox » Thu Mar 08, 2007 5:08 am

Ok I was pissed last nite at Randy on AI. Did anyone else catch this? Phil Stacey (the bald guy) sings poorly (I thought) and Randy goes something like "ok dawg u know u remind me of...see there was this band I was in & this guy was the singer Steve Perry & u remind me of him...he hit the high notes real well...u hit urs great but when u get into the lower registers...it's like u know dawg...u lose it." That's not exactly what he said but close.

I am sorry but Phil Stacey doesn't remind me of SP at ALL. What exactly did Randy mean? Perry had a phenomenal range both in high & low registers. Man that pissed me off.

Maybe he reminds him of Perry cuz he is also not active in the music industry?

I saw it Sis. It hit me wrong too. I think Randy meant it as a complement to the kid on the way he could soar up to those long high notes, but those notes are all that kid had. He was nothing at all like Perry. They've had other singers on there in past seasons who did a lot better job on the soaring high notes than this kid did while also doing a good job on the rest of the song and deserved a comparison like that a lot more.

Randy seems to be mentioning his short tenure with Journey more lately. I wonder what's up with that daowg?

As soon as Randy uttered the words, both my husband and daughter went "uh-oh" and at the same time i said "oh no he DIDN'T". It was so funny. Randy is not hearing properly. I loved Simon's comments though about it being weird with his hat and big eyes.

I noticed that too. Gearing up for a special appearance by his good buddy? Yeah I know. I can dream can't I?

Mr. Perry, get off ur cute ass & go coach these kids on AI. U could teach them a lot. & um while ur at it, would u mind singing a few notes for ur fans who adore u? Please.

I’m sorry, but while I would LOVE to hear SP sing again, I cringe at the thought of him going on AI. I’d watch every second, but I really think it would be a bad idea.

They've already announced the celeb judges or coaches or whatever they're doing for this year and he wasn't one of them, so if it happens it'll have to be next year.

I saw that, I'm looking forward to seeing JBJ go head to head with Simon. Can't see Steve doing AI, besides Simon gets pissy enough when somebody even sings a Journey song.

Right or wrong, I would have liked to have seen SP on that Celebrity Duet one last year. The one where some of the celebrity singers had to sing with the accomplished singers. As goofy of an idea as it was, I watched it.......liked seeing Dennis Deyoung, Kenny Loggins, Smoky Robinson, Sebastian Bach, etc. singing with the actors.

...damn, missed it last night and didn't tape it.

Will say, the word "dawg" coming out of randy's mouth constantly is starting to feel like fingernails on a blackboard

Yeah, I heard that reference.
Randy is ALWAYS dropping the "I was in Journey" bomb. That guy sounds NOTHING like Perry and he doesn't have anything close to Steve's range. His low note absolutely suck. I don't get that guy at all. Totally quirky. I loved Randy's playing with Journey. His bass playing was great, but for him to keep dragging that out like he was a veteran member gets old. The ONLY guy on that show who was close to Perry was the guy that supposedly buggered Paula. That guy had a good range but the lamest attitude I've ever seen on that show. Whatapunk.

For the guys I'm going with Blake, the Timberlake wannabe and the guy that looks like the Little Osbourne. That guy was great last night and they didn't like him. The rest of the guys SUCK.

For the gals, it's the little black gal that used to be a backup singer. SHE F'N rocks. GREAT singer and a great, humble 'tude. She should win the whole deal.

And Sangji (or whatever his name is) GET OFF the stage, you suck.

By the way, if I hear somebody else cover Stevie Wonder on that show (and NEVER hear Superstition) I'm gonna puke.

Yeah, Valory probably cracks his knuckles every time Randy mentions his Journey "tenure". Millions of people would probably name him as Journey's bass player over Ross now.

That era of Journey with the Dawg just didn't happen. There was no Raised On Radio. There was no stupid lookin goober Dawg playin a polka dotted bass on stage. Those crappy songs didn't happen. The harmonica was NEVER on a Journey record. The religion sellers on TV say that I can speak my wants into existance.

What RJ was trying to imply was that "like Perry,Phil has a lot of range".
I don't think it was a dig at Perry at all, only the fact that the guy has a big range like SP.

Um no sorry. The dawg specifically said Phil did NOT have a lot of range & his low register was very poor. So u misunderstood that sorry. He was comparing Phil's high register to Perry's.

For me, most of last nite on AI was like bad karaoke. The guys really sucked for the most part. Blake is at least original altho I don't like his songs the last 2 weeks. The Timberlake wannabe was good last nite (Chris Richardson) but I haven't liked him before. The little osborne (Chris Sligh) was AMAZING & the fucking judges slammed him which pissed me off so bad. Ok he doesn't look like an IDOL but his voice rocks (& w/his hot blonde wife, I bet he is a few ugly fat guys' idol). I also think Brandon is getting better every week but the judges ripped on him unfairly. They annoy me. They prefer the hotter looking black guy but I don't.

For the gals, it's the little black gal that used to be a backup singer. SHE F'N rocks. GREAT singer and a great, humble 'tude. She should win the whole deal.

I'm 1000% w/u there. Lakisha is good too but Melinda rocks & deserves to win.

He gets worse every week. Why is he still there? He is sooooo boring. I guess some teenyboppers like his look. But come on that whole hula thing? The guy is a bent as a fucking corkscrew. (Maybe it's the gays that vote for him?) Another one that gets worse is the slut, Antonella. America has shitty shitty taste if these folks get in the final 12.
