I said "Steve Perry" in a crowded room...

Postby TRAGChick » Sun Mar 11, 2007 11:11 am

(...my apologies for taking liberties with "Don't Stop Believin' ".... )

Hey all....

I wrote about this a few years ago, on another Message Board...but for whatever reason, it crossed my mind the other day...I KNOW you'll appreciate this..8)

OK:

I was a member of "The Waterbury Chorale" here in CT back in 2001-02...here's a group shot, taken during a Concert this past Christmas:

http://www.waterburychorale.org/

So, as you can see, this is a "Formal" group: Tuxedoes for the men; black Evening Gowns with hair in an upsweep and pearls for the women.

I had to buy a Formal Black floor-length dress for this group; it could be any style...so, I picked out a sleeveless black dress, with a sheer Empire-button "jacket" to go over it....it is also floor-length, but looks like a sheer "tuxedo" jacket.

I received SO MANY compliments on it; where did I get it, etc....so, one of the Ladies asked me why I got that particular dress, so I said:

"Well, the jacket reminded me of Steve Perry, so I HAD to get it!!" I said it jokingly, and laughed.

WELL:

the next thing you know....

These other women in the group came over to me, and overlapping each other, said:

"HUH?"
"WHAT??"
"Did somebody mention STEVE PERRY??"
"WHAT ABOUT Steve Perry??"

....all I did was say his name in passing....and look what happened....and, it was RIGHT BEFORE we had to go onstage and sing ULTRA COMPLICATED Music...Mendelssohn's "Elijah"...

....can't help but to wonder if "The Steve" was in the backs of their minds tho.....I'm so evil

I had an uncle die at 44 because he didn't listen to his doctor when he was told to quit his partying lifestyle. If that scares the shit out of you, then it should. He had one heart attack and was told that if his heart had previously been a V8, it is now a V6. My uncle never changed one thing about his lifestyle, and dropped dead as a wedge on a deer hunting trip, hung over from the night before. True, sad story. He was one dissertation away from his doctors degree in philosophy. Even brilliant people can be ignorant.

Deano, I'm not calling you an igmo or anything, I just hope you won't follow my uncles path.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

You should listen to your Doctor Deano. I had open heart surgery just a little over a year ago. I was 51 years old. Believe me, it is better to listen now. That was the most horrible experience I have ever been thru.

I have mentioned Steve Perry's name in a group and got the same reactions you did. But one thing I have noitced is women always like him, and men.....some do and some don't. But I love him, no singer or songwriter will ever take his place in my heart. I love him!

Yeah, perhaps you remember my brother's best friend who dropped dead of a heart attack at my brother's house back in November.

He was 37!!!! No obvious risk factors, other than smoking.

Goes to show you never know...

I have made a deal with myself.

I would rather be who I am and die early.
Example:

I am only drinking when the Cougars and Canucks play, and also when Jimmie drives. I love sports too much to stop watching(drinking). I tried to tell Lula, my team does better when I drink while watching. Don't laugh. last week, the Cougs were down 10 to USC, and I started pounding heavily. Made up that defecit quickly and won it in double OT.

Ask Ed, Vader, Duke or Stu(he re-hates me).....the more you drink and louder you get, it feels like I am willing my team to victory.

So today is a big day.

I will pound beers during the Vegas Race, and then continue on watching the Vancouver @ Anaheim game tonight.
