So? Google has billions of dollars at it's disposal. 1-1.5 bil isn't going to affect it's bottom line THAT much. They'd find a way to write it off, IF they didn't get out of it sighting some sort of loophole where it specifically states that copyrighted materials are not allowed and that they have no control over what the average joe uploads.

I smell some sort of settlement soon.

Yeah, every time you get something great like that, someone has to come along and screw it up. I guess if their stuff is pirated then it needs to be dropped, but a billion dollars? Give me a break. I hope a judge throws it out.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I read that earlier and didnt think much of it, cause I dont think they will get anywhere with this lawsuit. Theyre not after to protect their copyrighted material, they just want money,,, youtube is the best invention since sliced bread and it would take alot to get rid of the most popular video site online!

Viacom are just wankers!!
Dont they realise that having clips up there means that interest in the shows improves and becomes greater!! I hope every bastard boycotts watching their shows...twats!!

It all gets spoiled in the end doesnt it?? Audiogalaxy, Napster, Winmx, Kazaa .... all went the same way... the Corporates wanna squeeze every ounce of cash from us dont they... fuck... rather like the present UK government...under Tony "big brother is watching you" Blair ..they all make me puke quite frankly!!

Agreed...real strange how these fucks didn't go after youtube UNTIL they were bought out by Google? Where the hell was their billion dollar lawsuit 6 months ago?
Strange timing, that....wouldn't you say?

oooh oooh, can I answer? because they didn't have 1 billion dollars 6 months ago?

Youtube is taking much copyrighted stuff down, it can't help it that people are uploading it right back to youtube. Content filters can only do so much. Viacom knows what's up. They know it's not YOUtube uploading this stuff, it's the average joe. Oh, and by the way. What about all the viral and promo videos that viacom and their employees upload to youtube for free publicity? Oh yeah, it's ALL about free publicity, and google/Youtube know that. They benefit from this "news" too, just as much as Viacom, maybe even more.

They sure got plenty of free publicity yesterday. My husband was flipping channels yesterday and the first five he clicked onto were talking about this story.
