AWESOME JOURNEY

I was thrilled to see Journey tonight [14 March] last night at Hammersmith. My GOD ... all new bands should see these guys just once ... to see how it CAN be done if you have huge talent and work damn hard for 20 years ... it truly was magnificent .. You simply DO NOT see anything like this in the world today, except in such a night of rare privilege. Here they are in flight ... with great sound ... ! This picture hardly does them justice ... Jeff Scott Soto, our old friend (who sang with us in Vegas a couple of years ago) delivered a performance which I sincerely don't think any other singer I've ever seen could match - the catalogue of Journey's hits includes songs which in the main require an endless succession of impossibly high notes ... most of them originally sung by the great Steve Perry. Jeff sang about 25 of these monsters more or less back-to-back - and didn't duck a single challenge ... soared flawlessly above this gloriously heavy band sound ... truly awesome. And Neal Schon is a truly wonderful player ... one of the all-time greats in my book - outrageous technique, fabulous sound, melodic, creative ... soulful ... OK - you think I gush too much ? Well, check them out if you can. They are now travelling up to Newcastle to play tonight - Thursday night. If you are anywhere near ... do not miss this !! Next week: Germany ... including Cologne ...

Holy shit - thats a great review... That must really be exciting for Jeff to read something like that. I mean, I know they are friends now but to have someone you have admired and looked up to when you were a youngin say things like that .. must feel amazing.

I never had an interest in em until we

Those were some powerful words of praise from Mr May.
Thanks for bringing it over here Shania.

A review like this coming from Brian----one who I personally have the utmost respect for----is what it's all about. The guys in Journey must feel great reading this.

These are my two favorite bands! ;)

Cheers,

It's one thing for Brian to say good things about Jeff; we all know that they are
friends and have worked together in the past. But for a LEGEND like Brian May
to "gush" over Neal like that is a true testament to Schonny's greatness and legacy!
Who needs bullshit polls from Rolling Stone and any other guitar rag out there when
your "peers" speak of you this way! Great read!

Slightly OT but let me add a big HELL YA to that.

I have the Microsoft version -- it's called the "Zune" and I never thought I needed an MP3 player until I got one. Now I wonder how in the hell I EVER lived without one. It changed EVERYTHING. Absolutely everything. It is the #1 reason I rediscovered all this amazing music.

Thanks for posting the quote. Wow, high words of praise! I totally want to see JSS and Journey in concert now!!!

Brian was stood right more or less beside me in the mixing desk booth at the gig and his head didn't stop bopping all night!!! Clearly enjoyed it!

Jeff dedicated "Lights" to him as it's Brian's fave Journey track! JSS said something along the lines of, "this one goes out to the guy who gave me this shirt (pointing to the logo of Brian's book on astronamy "Bang" on his chest!), as he loves this tune! A huge thank you to Brian May!"
