NO WAY does Boston get in, based on only a few hit AOR Albums. Nor do they deserve to on first ballot.
B. Adams MAY have s shot, but I think it's a long shot. Eventually though. Except he went soft. REALLY soft.
Bon Jovi? WHY? Because they never went away for long enough? Sure they've sold tons of records, but they're more pop than Melodic Rock based. Hell, I'd even go so far as to say they haven't had a good ROCK song since Runaway.
I could see Styx getting in, no matter what anyone thinks of them. But we're talking the DDY fronted Styx, not that joke of a keyboard spinner, Gowan. i Is THAT his only gimmick? It sucks if it is.
John Waite I can see possibly being first of second ballot.
Gotta agree. I retract Jovi first ballet, and go with Styx.
As far as a MRHOF, my personal criteria would be contribution and influence on the genre' and longevity on radio, etc.I may even consider over all sales as well.
I think the genre TRULY started with those bands in the late 70's.Even though I am not a big fan, I would even consider Kansas in that category.Maybe even Frampton.
Journey,Foreigner,Boston, and Styx IMO are the pioneers of what we know now as Melodic Rock, same as Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Purple were the pioneers of Hard Rock/Metal.
And yes,I would induct the original members, so hence the DDY fronted Styx,Perry fronted Journey,Gramm fronted Foreigner, and Delp fronted Boston would all go in.
Ironic, that none of those folks front those bands anymore.
Thoughts?
