Melodic Rock HOF?

Since the RNRHOF has devolved into something worthless and irrelevant, let's say that Andrew opens the Wombat Memorial Melodic Rock HOF. Who comprises the inaugural class? You get 4 choices, solo artist or group. Here's mine:

Journey
Boston
Night Ranger
Bon Jovi

Any thoughts?

Journey
Foreigner
Boston
Rush

I don't think Night Ranger is a first ballot HOFer. I agree with Journey, Boston and Bon Jovi. Number 4 should be Van Halen, IMO.

Honestly NIG, Van Halen isn't as melodic as B Adams. He has 4 times the hits VH does. Mind you, I am not saying he is better...just a better melodic artist.

And Night Ranger? Puke. They're as bad as fuckin Toto.

Damn, Toto would have to be a first ballot cuz Wombat loves them so much.

Bryan Adams doesn't even qualify to have a forum here.

Foreigner is a good candidate. But if we can only pick 4, now I see Toto, Journey, VH and Boston. Bon Jovi, Def Lep and Foreigner can try again next year. :)

Fuck you NIG.

BA is 10 times popular and 5 times better than fuckin Toto, Andrew be damned. You know it, and I know it, and fuckin A, Andrew knows it too.

Fuck that! Based on past performance, He is above everyone, except maybe Journey. Shake yourself dude. Bon Jovi are Lip Syncing Kings, Toto is Euro, Foreigner is fat, REO is gay, Def Lippard are awful and Van Halen is a train wreck.

I am right and you know it.

BA and Journey get in 1st ballot.

You know, I hadn't considered Bryan Adams, but that's a pretty good choice. I debated among several for the 3 and 4 spots, including Van Halen, Foreigner, and Def Leppard. I left Def Leppard off in respect to Andrew, but I could definitely substitute any of those for Night Ranger. Rush is very good, too, but they almost define their own class of music.

The Wombat would put Perry in solo AND with Journey. So that takes up two spots.

NO WAY does Boston get in, based on only a few hit AOR Albums. Nor do they deserve to on first ballot.

B. Adams MAY have s shot, but I think it's a long shot. Eventually though. Except he went soft. REALLY soft.

Bon Jovi? WHY? Because they never went away for long enough? Sure they've sold tons of records, but they're more pop than Melodic Rock based. Hell, I'd even go so far as to say they haven't had a good ROCK song since Runaway.

I could see Styx getting in, no matter what anyone thinks of them. But we're talking the DDY fronted Styx, not that joke of a keyboard spinner, Gowan. i Is THAT his only gimmick? It sucks if it is.

John Waite I can see possibly being first of second ballot.

No Way! No way does Perry get in on his own merit. Street Talk was poppy at best and the FTLOSM was decent. 2 Records? No.

Yeah, they will get in, but not first ballot.

B. Adams MAY have s shot, but I think it's a long shot. Eventually though. Except he went soft. REALLY soft.

Oh he's in. He did go soft, but has recently regained his rock ways and you have to admit, that guy can write a melodic rock song better than anyone. IMO, Adams and Keith Scott are as good as Schon/Soto and Friga.

Bon Jovi? WHY? Because they never went away for long enough? Sure they've sold tons of records, but they're more pop than Melodic Rock based. Hell, I'd even go so far as to say they haven't had a good ROCK song since Runaway.

During TG, I latched onto them. Then found out they lip worse than anyone. Fuck those Lippers.

I could see Styx getting in, no matter what anyone thinks of them. But we're talking the DDY fronted Styx, not that joke of a keyboard spinner, Gowan. i Is THAT his only gimmick? It sucks if it is.

I would vote Styx in first ballot. They have a deserving resume.

John Waite I can see possibly being first of second ballot.

Dude, you bag on Adams and then promote this sequin Euro Queer? get the fuck out.

Gotta agree. I retract Jovi first ballet, and go with Styx.

As far as a MRHOF, my personal criteria would be contribution and influence on the genre' and longevity on radio, etc.I may even consider over all sales as well.
I think the genre TRULY started with those bands in the late 70's.Even though I am not a big fan, I would even consider Kansas in that category.Maybe even Frampton.

Journey,Foreigner,Boston, and Styx IMO are the pioneers of what we know now as Melodic Rock, same as Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Purple were the pioneers of Hard Rock/Metal.
And yes,I would induct the original members, so hence the DDY fronted Styx,Perry fronted Journey,Gramm fronted Foreigner, and Delp fronted Boston would all go in.
Ironic, that none of those folks front those bands anymore.

Thoughts?

I agree with your method,Michael.Besides the things you've mentioned,a band should be also evaluated by looking at the best years of its activity and consider the most hits, position in charts, the period of time when it got the best press, most ticket sales...It would take some reseach but the result would be correct. All that speaks about a band's peak and importance in the business.

I'd add AC/DC and Dire Straits to the list,if we're talking about influence and contribution.

If only four/year are allowed:

Why does Perry get in on his own? That's BULLSHIT. Neal has done much more work than Perry has. They are IN Journey. They go in as Journey, not separate. What in the Hell is wrong with you people?

There's no way Andrew could do a MRHOF. No way. Just look at what the mere idea of it has caused. If there really were one, the fighting would be off the hook! I will say this, it's great for a good laugh. This is one of the funniest threads in a while.

Oh .. I believe you are wrong

The album has sold in excess of 17 million copies and counting. Due to the incredible success of previous album "PYROMANIA" (released in 1983) and "HYSTERIA" Def Leppard are one of only five rock groups who can claim two separate original 10 million plus selling albums in the US. The others are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen. The "Hysteria" album also spawned 7 hit singles
